Superhero brawler Injustice: Gods Among Us has topped the U.S. software charts for a second month running, the latest NPD data has confirmed.
Unfortunately, May proved to be one of the lowest-performing months of recent memory in terms of overall software sales. This is in part attributed to the fact the period saw fewer titles released, with those that were available generating lower sales.
“In May 2013, the top 10 games represented a lower percentage of sales compared to games from the previous few Mays at 18% of overall unit sales and 25% of overall dollars, compared to 30% of units and 45% of dollars in May 2012,” commented the NPD’s Liam Callahan.
“This is contrary to trends we’ve been seeing over the last few years with the top ten games generating a larger percentage of overall sales and may be indicative of the weak new launch performance this May.”
Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter also noted on Twitter that the figures represented the lowest since May 2000.
Said Pachter: “This console transition is reminiscent of PS1 to PS2; at least, the numbers make it look that way.”
Hardware figures from Sony were noted divulged, though Microsoft took the crown as the best-selling console for its 29th consecutive month, shifting 114,000 units. Nintendo 3DS, however, edged Xbox 360 in terms of highest total platform spend.
