Sony has taken offline PS3 firmware update 4.45 after reports that it bricked some consoles. The following statement was released acknowledging the reports and confirming that Sony is now investigating the issue.
"We are aware of reports that the recent PlayStation 3 system software update (version 4.45) has caused the XMB to not display on a small number of PS3 systems,” said a Sony spokesperson.
“We have temporarily taken 4.45 offline and are investigating the cause of the problem. We will announce when the system update is available for download as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience."
Initial reports suggested that some consoles would not boot up properly following the installation of the firmware update with users complaining that they are unable to access the XMB.
