The Need For Speed franchise took a new direction with its last iteration, providing a new type of competitive racing experience in Most Wanted that had a firm focus on social integration.
In Need For Speed Rivals, the community aspect is still alive with the return of the brilliant Autolog system which allows players to challenge each other on-the-fly, as well as a new feature called AllDrive, which allows players to transition smoothly from single player to multiplayer. Ghost Games describes this new feature as "destroying the line between single player and multiplayer".
Gameplay inspiration has been taken from Hot Pursuit with frenetic high-speed chases with the cops in pursuit. Vehicles can be customised, gadgets - such as roadblocks and shockwaves - can be called in to aid drivers, and the open world of Redview County will be littered with Need For Speed-trademark jumps, speed traps and unlockable cars.
Drifting and handling feels more fluid and enjoyable than ever, high speed races are exhilarating and the open gameworld looks spectacular. Hands-down, Need For Speed: Rivals is one of the most fun games we've played at E3 this year and picks up the award in the BEST RACING category.
