And so we come inexorably to the Best Game award, which believe us has been no easy choice given the amount of quality games we’ve been clapping eyes on. However, for sheer brilliance, Watch Dogs by Ubisoft has nabbed this particular crown ahead of the competition. Currently under the hammer at Ubisoft Montreal, this open-world sci-fi epic blends high-tech gadgetry with stealth and adventure, with game’s unique concept involving the ability to hack into virtually any electronic device or system at your leisure.
As moody Aiden Pearce, gamers can wage Information Warfare by tapping into everything from cell phones to traffic lights to facilitate your objectives. Similar to its free-running, stab-happy stable mate Assassin’s Creed, Watch Dogs also incorporates elements of parkour, which is not only used for swift navigation of the city but also ties into combat, allowing Pearce to swiftly and surreptitiously dispatch foes. But this is more than just a modern-day Assassin’s Creed.
Powered by the Disrupt engine Watch Dogs offers a sprawling, alternate-reality version of Chicago, Illinois to explore, complete with diverse objectives; one instance you may be assassinating a suspect, another time you’ll be evading the cops or preventing a victim from meeting his or her maker at the hands of would-be assassins. With a unique concept, stunning graphics and open-ended gameplay, Watch Dogs is shaping up to be one of the biggest IPs of the next generation of consoles.
Honorable mentions: The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, The Division, Destiny
