There are a lot of reasons why someone might want to check out a guide like T Dub Sanders'. One might be interested in the underside of the game testing field. Others might just want to know what they can gain from a guide that is written to help people understand their role in the gaming industry. Others still are just pining for that ultimate career working alongside game developers and designers.

Whatever the reason, T Dub Sanders has put together one of the biggest and best game testing guides on the market – one that shows the underpinnings of the career in their raw, real format. There are no false promises of automatic testing or sitting at home and playing the newest games for hundreds of dollars a day.

That stuff is all pretty much a pipe dream and most people know it – yet many guide writers try to tell everyone that they can become the biggest and best new game testers in a field that doesn't really exist every day and too many fall for it. On the other hand, what T Dub has put together is a much more realistic, much more comprehensive look at what game testing is really about – the hard work and dedication that goes into becoming someone in charge of all that code each day.

By showing what it really takes to be a game tester, T Dub opens up an actual, realistic path to getting into the industry. He showcases skills needed to get started as a tester, the classes or college majors that people better be willing to invest in if they want to be a professional in this field and much more to help them figure out not only if the career path is right for them but if they are going to be cut out for it. That means a great deal for someone who may or may not know exactly what a game tester does and how it operates.

For anyone that is thinking about taking the path toward becoming a game tester, one of the first things that needs to be done is to learn more about what the career entails. Those people should pick up T Dub's newest guide and get a real insider's look at the job and how it really works. If you're serious about doing what T Dub shows you, you'll be on the fast track toward game testing in no time flat.

PixelJunk Monsters: Ultimate HD announced for PS Vita

You are here: Home » News » PixelJunk Monsters: Ultimate HD ...

Posted June 25th, 2013 at 10:39 EDT by Timothy Nunes0 Comments

Double Eleven, Ltd, developer of PlayStation Vita titles LittleBigPlanet and Limbo, as embarked on a new project for Sony's beloved handheld: PixelJunk Monsters: Ultimate HD.

The main premise of PixelJunk Monsters is controlling Tikiman in order to protect his helpless babies from monsters. Now that the former PlayStation Portable title is coming to the PS Vita, Double Eleven has remastered the visuals to beautifully accommodate the PS Vita's OLED screen, and touch input controls have been added to increase control over managing the game.  Included in this version is the Encore expansion and all additional levels, towers, and enemies that were part of the PSP's Deluxe Edition.

Much like in any tower defense title, players can earn coins by defeating waves of monsters and spend them on tower and building upgrades and even buy more defensive structures to fend off all the creepy critters.

While converting this title over to the PS Vita the Double Eleven team, which worked with the Q-Games development team to rehash PixelJunk Monsters on Sony's newer handheld, the teams discussed the option to reduce the overall difficulty by adding in checkpoints during waves of enemies, which would have made a major difference while playing on Legendary difficulty. However, after some hearty contemplation, both teams decided to not include this feature, because "the sense of pride you gained in “rainbowing” (perfectly completing) a level would become somewhat less satisfying. In Monsters, you earn your rainbows and that’s it." So, fans of the series will either love or hate to know that the PS Vita version of PixelJunk Monsters will be as hard as it was on the PSP.

No official release date was announced, but here's a taste of what's to come in the updated title PixelJunk Monsters: Ultimate HD for the PS Vita:

GTTV (via TSA) has revealed that Daylight, a new supernatural thriller powered by the Unreal Engine 4, will be released for PlayStation 4 in addition to the previously-confirmed PC version.

Developed by Zombie Studios and published by Atlus, Daylight takes place in a derelict apartment block, and sees gamers guiding a woman out of the complex using a compass on her cellphone. Furthermore, the game randomly generates content, meaning no two players will experience the same journey when entering a location.

'Future of Final Fantasy' pre-E3 event announced for June 11

Posted June 5th, 2013 at 15:41 EDT by Ernest Lin10 Comments

Pre-E3 shows seem to be the new trend, just like starting Black Friday on Thanksgiving, to give developers a leg up on hyping up their titles before the expo starts. Square Enix is hopping on the bandwagon with a pre-E3 event titled the "Future of Final Fantasy."

Just today, publications like Destructoid received invites to the event with little information other than they would be able to ask Square Enix senior vice president Shinji Hashimoto some questions at that time.

What does the "Future of Final Fantasy" have in store for us? Maybe more Lightning Returns, a localized Final Fantasy Type-0, or Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Surely Final Fantasy XV will at last be unveiled. Stay tuned to PSU for the latest on Final Fantasy and more.

Ernest Lin is a US Editor for PSU when he's not waiting for Final Fantasy Versus XIII or Kingdom Hearts 3. You can follow him on Tumblr & Twitter.

PS4 launch game Warframe announced, 'Mass Effect meets Ninja Gaiden' by Unreal developers

You are here: Home » News » PS4 launch game Warframe announc...

Posted June 5th, 2013 at 22:18 EDT by Kyle Prahl5 Comments

Warframe, the co-op shooter involving space and ninjas, is coming to PlayStation 4 as a free-to-play launch title.

The news was exclusively revealed by IGN, who had plenty of developer insight to share. Digital Extremes--the team behind the Unreal series, Dark Sector, and The Darkness II--is bringing the game over from PC, where it is still in beta phase. Steven Sinclair, the game's creative director, describes Warframe as "Mass Effect meets Ninja Gaiden" and details how supportive Sony has been throughout the process of bringing it to consoles:

"Sony caught wind of [Warframe], and said, ‘hey, what do you think of bringing it over to PlayStation 4?’, and we were very surprised to hear that," he said. "Sony has been incredibly supportive and available, and [PlayStation 4], in my opinion, is incredible to develop for. It is awesome, and I don't want to speak disparagingly about any existing or prior platforms, but we showed Warframe for the first time to our entire studio, and everyone had their jaws on the floor, how 1080p, silky smooth and beautiful it was. So, I’m really, really enjoying working on the machine."

You will too--Warframe will be a PS4 launch title later this year. A companion app on iOS and Android will reinforce the game's presence, which is already shaping up to use crafting, customization, and cooperative focus to deeply engage its players. And Warframe will be a PS4 exclusive... for now. Digital Extremes has no current plans to bring the game to other consoles.

Kyle Prahl hopes Warframe will channel Unreal Tournament 3, one of PS3's best multiplayer games. You can follow him for E3 coverage on Twitter and Facebook.

Fantasy action-RPG Diablo 3 will be released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 3, Blizzard has announced.

"In addition to the fine-tuning we've done for the console versions, we're also including major content and design updates we've made to the PC version over the past year."

Diablo 3 was originally released on PC in May of last year where it went on to move 12 million copies by December 31, 2012.

FUSE winner announced as action-packed, team-based shooter launches

You are here: Home » News » Fuse » FUSE winner announced as action-...

Posted May 29th, 2013 at 04:20 EDT by PSU Staff1 Comments

A big thanks to everyone who entered our competition to win a PS3 copy of FUSE, Insomniac Games’ upcoming team-based shooter.

Players were asked to try out the FUSE demo and let us know their thoughts in 200 words or less.

The winning entry comes from JackBarry96 who wrote this:

“I thoroughly enjoyed the FUSE Demo as the characters were very interesting; all had great and unique personalities. But what I loved most about the FUSE Demo was the weapons! Weapons are what make Insomniacs game full and enjoyable, such as the amazing Ratchet and Clank series. The co-op in FUSE is absolutely brilliant, it is streamlined and it is very easy to switch from character to character. The controls were very easy to learn and the dodge and cover system works really well with the gunplay. An important aspect of the game is your teammates and because of their helpfulness and intelligent AI, it makes the game a lot of fun. The FUSE demo got me really excited about the game and I am even more so about playing through it!

Congratulations, you have copy of FUSE heading your way.

FUSE launched in North America on May 28. The EU version launches on May 31, 2013.

Read our FUSE preview. We'll have a full review shortly.

Need for Speed Rivals announced, coming to PS4 and more

You are here: Home » News » Need for Speed Rivals announced,...

Posted May 24th, 2013 at 06:00 EDT by Mike Harradence6 Comments

Need for Speed Rivals has been officially announced by Electronic Arts for release this year, following a teaser image that leaked earlier this week.

The racer will be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, with the next-generation versions available at a later date than their current-gen counterparts, which are due in November.

Rivals features an open-world where gamers take control of a racer or a police officer, with each particular side offering its own unique set of challenges and rewards. In addition, Rivals also signals the return of the Ferrari to the Need for Speed series after a seven-year absence.

"The more cops players evade, the more Speedpoints they collect, enabling them to unlock new cars and items. Keep raising the stakes race after race, earning more and more Speedpoints along the way and becoming a more valuable target to the cops - but risk losing it all if busted,” EA’s press blurb says.

"As a cop, players work together as part of a team in pursuit of racers, earning prominence and rising in the ranks of the Police Force with every bust. Achieving higher ranks unlocks new police only cars and more powerful pursuit tech."

Here’s what you can expect from the latest entry in EA’s adrenaline-fuelled racing franchis:

-AllDrive - An innovative new feature that allows gamers to seamlessly transition from playing alone, to playing with friends, destroying the line between single player and multiplayer. Players will have to keep one eye on their rearview mirror as friends will be able to enter and exit races on-the-fly, creating a world where no two events will ever be the same

-Next-Gen Racing - Redview County is brought to life with stunning, next-generation detail

-Need for Speed Network Powered by Autolog - Gamers can compare stats and challenge their friends anytime, anywhere and then easily share their accomplishments with both friends and rivals.

-Personalization - Drivers customize their ride with fresh paintjobs, custom license plates, liveries decals and rims, as well as performance upgrades.

-Pursuit and Evasion Tech - White-knuckle racing explodes with 11 upgradeable gadgets including turbo boosts, jammers and EMPs for racers, and shockwaves, roadblocks and helicopters for cops.

Need for Speed Rivals is currently in development at Ghost Games. Stay tuned for more information as we get it.

Xbox One has been announced as Microsoft’s next console and will rival the PlayStation 4 when it's released world-wide later this year.

"You and your TV are going to have a relationship", said Microsoft at the Xbox reveal event live from the Xbox Campus in Redmond.

Speaking to a packed crowd at the home of Xbox, Don Mattrick revealed the cloud-powered Xbox One, describing it as a home entertainment system for core and casual gamers, music, sports and movie fans.

They’ll be no more need to log on manually thanks to voice-recognition and users will have the ability to call out commands in order to watch T.V and switch between music, gaming and T.V seamlessly.

They'll also be no fewer than eight brand new franchises within 12 months and 15 console exclusives. Let's hope Sony can top that!

We’ll have more details as they land.

Posted May 22nd, 2013 at 09:45 EDT by Mike Harradence1 Comments

Metro: Last Light will receive a barrage of downloadable content this summer and a Season Pass to go with it, Deep Silver has confirmed.

First up, the Faction Pack and Chronicles Pack are story-based affairs that expand on the Metro storyline, while the Tower Pack adds a unique solo challenge specifically for veteran Metro players.

Following these up will be the Developer Pack, which is geared towards more creative players by giving them some ‘interesting tools’ to explore the game world with.

Faction will be first out the door in June, though release dates for the rest of the DLC have yet to be announced.

Finally, Deep Silver announced that gamers can download the Metro: Last Light Season Pass from PlayStation Network, Steam and Xbox LIVE from today, giving you access to all future DLC at a discount price.

Those of you who purchase the Season Pass will also receive an added bonus in the shape of the Abzats semi-automatic Shotgun, which is capable of firing six shells in one devastating blast as a secondary fire option.

Stay tuned for more details on Metro: Last Light’s DLC as we get them.
