There are a lot of reasons why someone might want to check out a guide like T Dub Sanders'. One might be interested in the underside of the game testing field. Others might just want to know what they can gain from a guide that is written to help people understand their role in the gaming industry. Others still are just pining for that ultimate career working alongside game developers and designers.

Whatever the reason, T Dub Sanders has put together one of the biggest and best game testing guides on the market – one that shows the underpinnings of the career in their raw, real format. There are no false promises of automatic testing or sitting at home and playing the newest games for hundreds of dollars a day.

That stuff is all pretty much a pipe dream and most people know it – yet many guide writers try to tell everyone that they can become the biggest and best new game testers in a field that doesn't really exist every day and too many fall for it. On the other hand, what T Dub has put together is a much more realistic, much more comprehensive look at what game testing is really about – the hard work and dedication that goes into becoming someone in charge of all that code each day.

By showing what it really takes to be a game tester, T Dub opens up an actual, realistic path to getting into the industry. He showcases skills needed to get started as a tester, the classes or college majors that people better be willing to invest in if they want to be a professional in this field and much more to help them figure out not only if the career path is right for them but if they are going to be cut out for it. That means a great deal for someone who may or may not know exactly what a game tester does and how it operates.

For anyone that is thinking about taking the path toward becoming a game tester, one of the first things that needs to be done is to learn more about what the career entails. Those people should pick up T Dub's newest guide and get a real insider's look at the job and how it really works. If you're serious about doing what T Dub shows you, you'll be on the fast track toward game testing in no time flat.

Just Add Water answers Kojima's call to remake Metal Gear Solid

Posted June 27th, 2013 at 11:03 EDT by Will Robinson6 Comments

Today, developer Just Add Water released and open letter to industry icon Hideo Kojima regarding his interest in seeing the original Metal Gear Solid remade on his new Fox Engine. The letter is as follows:

Dear Mr Kojima,

We read with great excitement on VG247 that you were looking for a studio to work with to develop a Metal Gear Solid remake using the Fox Engine, that your team has been hard at work creating.

We at Just Add Water feel ideally positioned to do the remake justice for several reasons:

1. We have experience working with legendary IP (Oddworld Inhabitants) and treating the subject matter with the respect it deserves.
2. Many members of our team are huge Metal Gear fans, with very good knowledge of the source material.
3. We really, really want to do it.

For evidence of our abilities, please check out not only the HD treatment of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath, released on PlayStation3, VITA and PC, but the current re-creation of Abe’s Oddysee, titled Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty.

We eagerly await your response.

Love and cuddles,

The JAW Team.

While speaking at an E3 round table interview Mr. Kojima was mistranslated. He was quoted by GameReactor saying that he was in the process of finding a team to recreate the original Metal Gear Solid. Mr. Kojima himself immediately took to Twitter to correct this error, clarifying what was originally said and apologizing for the misinterpretation. He wrote:

“Chris, my interpreter answered in different nuance that made this consequence. I on the other hand, answered w/ bit of lip service.

“I answered ‘You (the journalist) wanted me to do MGS2 on Fox Engine but I cannot do. I wish if only someone could make MGS1 on Fox Engine.’

“However, Chris mistranslated as ‘Personally he would like have MGS1 on Fox Engine, so he try to find someone right now to do that.’ NOOOOO!!!

“The journalist wasn't wrong. We are deeply sorry for the misinterpretation on our side.

“Well, if there's some creator or team in this world who has love and passion to remake ‘MGS1’, I would love to ask for it.”

With developers starting to line up at a chance to remake the revolutionary title on the Fox Engine, what do you think about it all? Is Just Add Water the right developer for the job? Do they have the pedigree for it? Do you have a different developer in mind? Sound off in the comments below!

Kojima reveals Metal Gear Solid remake, possible portable integration for MGSV

You are here: Home » News » Metal Gear Solid V: The Pha... » Kojima reveals Metal Gear Solid ...

Posted June 25th, 2013 at 17:28 EDT by Timothy Nunes9 Comments

A roundtable interview with Hideo Kojima, attended by GameReactor, has revealed that he is planning a remake of the original Metal Gear Solid, and he's interested in Metal Gear Solid V having some form of digital integration.

Kojima let slip about the MGS remake when a fan, who managed to get into the interview, stated that a remake of the first two games should be made in the Fox Engine. Kojima then said that he is currently searching for a studio to remake the first game in that engine.

GamesReactor proceeded to ask Kojima about the impact of the next generation of consoles on him. He responded, "For us it's not about upgraded graphics or anything like that. We're really looking forward to the fact that we can now use multiple devices to play a game. So whether it's smart phones or tablets, we can play Metal Gear Solid V on that tablet or smartphone and integrate that into what we have on the console. So people can play the game essentially 24 hours and be in the world of MGS anytime they like to."

Whether Kojima wants to port the Fox Engine to a handheld device or, more likely considering the limitations of current hardware, create a smaller integrated game or application is still unclear.

Metal Gear Solid has already been remade once in 2004 as Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, a Gamecube exclusive.

Are you interested in a remake of Metal Gear Solid? And do you think that digital integration would benefit Metal Gear Solid V? Let us know in the comments section below.

Hideo Kojima says Metal Gear Solid V will look even better on PS4, Xbox One

You are here: Home » News » Electronic Entertainment Expo [E3... » Metal Gear Solid V... » Hideo Kojima says Metal Gea...

Posted June 13th, 2013 at 06:15 EDT by Mike Harradence4 Comments

Hideo Kojima has revealed that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will look even better than the already-stunning trailer shown off at E3 this week.

Speaking with Polygon, Kojima-san said that the team is pushing the current generation of hardware first before moving on to next-gen tech, which he reckons will be a definite visual leap above what we’ve already seen.

“For this project we were using the PC to build the Fox Engine to create our game. We’re using the current-generation as a [guideline]," he said.

“While we were developing on current-gen, next-gen came long. We’re really trying to reach the peak of the current generation right now — 360, PS3 — and then see how much we can take it up for the next-generation. Once we start going into development for next-generation we’re definitely looking for something better than [what] we have shown today.”

The Metal Gear creator also revealed that Snake’s latest outing is aiming for 60fps, and that it will support smartphone and tablet features.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain stars Big Boss and takes place in the year 1984. Perhaps the biggest shift however is the fact the game will offer an open-world design for players to explore, allowing for a myriad of tactical options to employ in terms of gameplay. Real-time weather effects are also included.

What do you think of MGSV so far? Sound off in the comments section below.

Kojima Productions on why Snake doesn't have a new Japanese voice actor for Metal Gear Solid V

You are here: Home » News » Metal Gear Solid V: The Pha... » Kojima Productions on why Snake ...

Posted June 7th, 2013 at 19:08 EDT by Ernest Lin2 Comments

During their Kojima Productions Alert podcast, the studio behind Metal Gear Solid V answered a few questions fans had submitted about the new game. One on the minds of many Metal Gear gamers was why the Japanese voice actor for Snake/Big Boss is remaining the same for MGSV while Kiefer Sutherland is replacing David Hayter for the role in the English version.

“This time, the English voice is really driving the animation, is driving the character. In past Metal Gears, everything was done by hand: the animation was done by hand, both the English and the Japanese were dubbed in,” explained assistant producer & podcast host Sean Eyestone.

“This time, the facial performance that is being done by the English voice actor is what is driving the animation, what is driving the character. And actually, Otsuka-san, who is the Japanese voice, will be dubbing into that. So his facial expressions will not be in the game, so it’s just his voice. It’s like what he’s done up to this point. So that’s more or less the reason why this casting decision was made."

Eyestone felt that the team made the right choice and fans will agree in time. "I know some people may have reservations, whenever things change, people are always a little nervous. But I think if you just wait and see how things turn out, I think you’ll be very happy with the performance. I think it’s really cool and we can’t wait to show you more.”

We will have to wait and see if Sutherland can fill Hayter's shoes and bring something new to the character. Stay tuned to PSU for breaking news on Metal Gear and more.

Kiefer Sutherland providing Snake's voice and facial capture in Metal Gear Solid V

You are here: Home » News » Metal Gear Solid V: The Pha... » Kiefer Sutherland providing Snak...

Posted June 6th, 2013 at 14:05 EDT by Ernest Lin9 Comments

During the Konami Pre-E3 Show today, Hideo Kojima announced that, as rumored, TV show 24 star Kiefer Sutherland will voice and provide facial motion capture for Naked Snake/Big Boss in the Metal Gear Solid V

"This time, with Metal Gear Solid V, the themes are a little different from previous games in the series. We're taking on some very heavy subjects such as race and revenge. This makes the tone much darker. As a result, I wanted Snake to have a more subdued performance - express through subtle movements and tone of voice, rather than words," explained Kojima.

"Furthermore, the game takes place in 1984 when Snake is 49 years old. Therefore, we needed someone who could genuinely convey both the facial and vocal qualities of a man in his late 40s. It's different from anything we've done before."

"So I asked a producer friend of mine in Hollywood, Avi Arad, for advice. He's the one who introduced me to Mr. Kiefer Sutherland. And I was like, "Why didn't I think of that? I felt he was the perfect fit in terms of age and performance. So, we made him an offer."

"So we were eating dinner in Japan, celebrating the 25th anniversary of Metal Gear Solid and we started talking about actors," recalled famous film producer Avi Arad. "And I said to him, "Why don't you go for Kiefer Sutherland?" Whenever I think of Snake, I think of a certain voice delivery and Kiefer has this fantastic, rich voice that maintains a level of mystery to it. Friend of mine used to be Snake, but Kiefer is a class by himself."

"It's an honor to play this character. This character has an unbelievable legacy, but there's a real personal quality to the character that I've connected to," said Sutherland. "I'm not a gamer and I even knew about this game. I was certainly keenly aware of the legacy of these games; the unbelievable success of these games."

Sutherland also explained his approach to playing the role of Snake. "I'm trying to isolate what does Snake want for the future? And how does the past weigh on him? There is a character's hope for the future. And that rams out what I determine as the human experience. It's what I've always loved about movies. It's not something I've experienced as a character in a video game before."

Kojima expressed his happiness with working with Sutherland. "Kiefer immediately understood what I was looking for. I was very moved by his commitment to the project." In previous Metal Gears, Snake's emotions were expressed in phrases like, "Kaz? Are you okay?" But this time, all he says is, "Kaz?" I wanted everything else to be expressed to the player through Snake's facial expression & vocal performance. Thanks to the top-notch acting, it's been a great success. I think it will turn out to be something truly special."

Also, check out this Behind The Scenes video...

What are your thoughts on Kiefer Sutherland replacing David Hayter for the role of Snake? Let us know in the comments and stay tuned to PSU for everything Metal Gear.
