There are a lot of reasons why someone might want to check out a guide like T Dub Sanders'. One might be interested in the underside of the game testing field. Others might just want to know what they can gain from a guide that is written to help people understand their role in the gaming industry. Others still are just pining for that ultimate career working alongside game developers and designers.

Whatever the reason, T Dub Sanders has put together one of the biggest and best game testing guides on the market – one that shows the underpinnings of the career in their raw, real format. There are no false promises of automatic testing or sitting at home and playing the newest games for hundreds of dollars a day.

That stuff is all pretty much a pipe dream and most people know it – yet many guide writers try to tell everyone that they can become the biggest and best new game testers in a field that doesn't really exist every day and too many fall for it. On the other hand, what T Dub has put together is a much more realistic, much more comprehensive look at what game testing is really about – the hard work and dedication that goes into becoming someone in charge of all that code each day.

By showing what it really takes to be a game tester, T Dub opens up an actual, realistic path to getting into the industry. He showcases skills needed to get started as a tester, the classes or college majors that people better be willing to invest in if they want to be a professional in this field and much more to help them figure out not only if the career path is right for them but if they are going to be cut out for it. That means a great deal for someone who may or may not know exactly what a game tester does and how it operates.

For anyone that is thinking about taking the path toward becoming a game tester, one of the first things that needs to be done is to learn more about what the career entails. Those people should pick up T Dub's newest guide and get a real insider's look at the job and how it really works. If you're serious about doing what T Dub shows you, you'll be on the fast track toward game testing in no time flat.

DUST 514 gets the first of 'rapid-fire updates' with Uprising 1.2

Posted July 3rd, 2013 at 16:26 EDT by Alex Locher2 CommentsDUST 514 saw another title update yesterday with the launch of Uprising 1.2. The upgrade brings a whole host of changes across the board with graphics, sound, control, performance and balance all getting some love on top of some new content and features.

Uprising 1.2 marks the first of CCP's 'rapid-fire updates' which will deploy on a monthly basis. Earlier this year, CCP explained that DUST 514 would probably get 3 to 4 sizeable updates a year. However, in a recent dev blog, Creative Director Atli Mar Sveinsson (CCP Praetorian) explained a change of direction in the company's approach.

"We listen to your feedback, as well as to feedback from the media. As a result, we have decided to move into a faster, more iterative update cycle. We will be pushing out point releases (Update 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc.) on a near-monthly basis. This is unique in the console space, only possible because our friends at Sony work with us to evolve the submission processes to suit free-to-play massively multiplayer titles like DUST."

Check out the dev blog where Praetorian explains some of the bigger changes made in 1.2.

I had the chance to speak with DUST 514's Executive Producer, Brandon Laurino, at this year's FanFest. In the midst of our lengthy chat he told me that the company is growing in leaps and bounds in its ability to develop and author content for the game. They are able to do more, quicker, and it’s starting to show. According to this thread at the official forums, the content of Uprising 1.3 has already been locked and is presumably in for a month of QA before it launches around the end of July or early August.

Rapid-fire updates are just part of the equation. Another important part of this evolving methodology is the community of DUST gamers and the Council of Planetary Management (CPM) that acts as a liaison between the community and the devs. The CPM consists of DUST players who were picked by CCP for the role. Hans Jagerblitzen is one of those members and is blogging about his experience. If you are interested in learning how CCP is reaching out to its community, check out his blog.

Before You get stuck into the patch notes, there are a few other things you ought to know. First up, there are a couple of events taking place over the next weeks that will be quite lucrative for New Eden's mercs. From a recent blog:

Triple SP Event

Starting on July 4 and ending on July 10, we will be hosting a Triple Skill Point Event for all players who log in to play. During the event period your skill point cap will be tripled and your skill booster bonuses are stacked with the triple skill point reward. The weekly SP cap will reset on Wednesday, July 3rd as usual after DT. If you hit your weekly in the first day then you will still be eligible for the extended SP cap for the event on Thursday.

The passive SP gain and caps are not part of the triple SP event, so they will work normally.

Square Enix lost first Kingdom Hearts game's data, had to 'recreate everything' for HD 1.5 Remix

Posted June 26th, 2013 at 14:37 EDT by Ernest Lin11 Comments

In an E3 2013 interview, Kingdom Hearts director Tetsuya Nomura revealed that the original data for the first Kingdom Hearts game was lost and thus had to be recreated for the upcoming Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix remaster collection.

"Kingdom Hearts 1 was created a long, long time ago, so actually the original data was lost," explained Nomura. "So, we had to research and we had to dig out from the actual games available, and recreate everything for HD. We had to recreate graphics, and it was actually not that easy."

Keep your fingers crossed that it doesn't have an impact on your Kingdom Hearts nostalgia. From footage released, it's doubtful anyone suspected Nomura and his crew recreated everything for the HD 1.5 Remix.

Stay tuned to PSU for news on Kingdom Hearts and more.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F first trailer announces the Digital Diva's journey to the West

Earlier this month, Sega confirmed that Hatsune Miku Project Diva F, the latest entry in the Digital Diva's series, would be heading to North America and Europe this August. Now an official announcement trailer has been released featuring two popular songs, "Tell Your World" and "Odds & Ends."

A demo is now available on the PlayStation Network in both North America and Europe.

Hatsune Miku Project Diva is a hit rhythm game franchise that began in 2009 on the PlayStation Portable. Since then, games in the series have been released on the PS3, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Vita, and in arcades. Many titles in the series were bestsellers in Japan and became a mild PSP system seller there.

It seems we have a reason why the PlayStation 4 is being released first in the US & UK: Xbox One.

Sony Computer Entertainment President & CEO Andrew House spoke to Japan Times about the the reason why Sony is releasing its next gen console in the US & UK first, mentioning “competitive pressures” with a focus on the Xbox One releasing in November.

He also mentioned that the PS4 will "allow for an aggressive cost-down strategy", allowing the new system to reach“the broadest mass of consumers that we can.”

Do you guys agree with the strategy? Lets us know down below and keep your eyes peeled to PSU for up to date gaming news!

The first ten minutes of Capcom's upcoming Remember Me, releasing June 4 in North America and June 7 in Europe, have been made available thanks to CVG.

An action-adventure title in which players assume the role of a former 'memory-hunter' attempting to escape the clutches of a manipulative surveillance state, Remember Me has received average reviews so far, each highlighting the game's brilliant narrative and lackluster platforming gameplay.

Give us your perspective on Capcom's latest title. Are critics overlooking a beautiful game? Tell us in the comment section below, or over on our official community message boards.

Kaz Hirai: PS4 'all about the gamers' first, unlike Xbox One

Posted May 30th, 2013 at 17:06 EDT by Ernest Lin11 Comments

Today at the D11 conference hosted by AllThingsD, Sony president and CEO Kaz Hirai emphasized what many anticipated following the Xbox One unveiling: the PS4 would put gamers as their top priority rather than the more widespread demographic Microsoft appears to be targeting.

“I fundamentally believe that the initial market that we need to make sure we appeal to with any new platform … is really the gaming audience. They will be the supporters of your platform and they will help propel the installed base,” explained Hirai.

However, that doesn't mean that applications for streaming entertainment will be neglected. “But that’s after we establish the platform as a video game platform," explained Hirai. "We want to make sure that we are there for the gamers with our PS4 as well. They will go beyond this, but they’ll definitely start with gamer first."

“For us, it’s all about the gamers.”

Stay tuned to PSU for breaking news on PS4 and more.

Mass Effect 3, Battlefield 3 among first EA titles to have Online Pass removed

You are here: Home » News » Mass Effect 3, Battlefield 3 amo...

Posted May 30th, 2013 at 17:06 EDT by Steve Chaffin1 Comments

The first set of games from which EA will remove its controversial Online Pass has been detailed.

As we reported earlier, EA is responding to widespread negative feedback by removing Online Passes from past, present, and future EA titles. Originally, this was thought to pertain only to future titles, but the publisher took it a step further by announcing today that the changes would also apply to its already-released lineup.

EA has made online passes for the following games free, or has removed the online pass for the title altogether:

Alice: Madness Returns
Battlefield 3 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Bulletstorm
Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3
Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3
Medal of Honor
Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, Need For Speed: The Run, and Need For Speed: Shift 2
Skate 3
The Sims 3

For more information on EA's decision, see our earlier report.

PS4 Need for Speed title gets first teaser image?

A teaser screenshot spotted on Need for Speed’s Australian Facebook page has hinted that the series may be shifting gears towards a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One announcement.

Seen below, the screen depicts a Koenigseggon police cruiser alongside the tagline “Have no rules, show no mercy.”

Could this be the first next-generation shot of a Need for Speed title? It certainly looks the business, and with both PS4 and Xbox One gearing up for launch later this year, we can’t imagine why EA wouldn’t want to release one of its tent pole franchises on new systems.

What do you think? Sound off in the comments section below.
