Splinter Cell's Sam Fisher sneaking into next-generation, Ubisoft says

Making its debut in 2002 on the PlayStation 2, Splinter Cell is among the most successful and well-established stealth franchises in the video game industry. Although Splinter Cell: Blacklist, slated for release in the U.S. on August 20 and in Europe on August 23, has yet to be enjoyed or praised by the gaming community, Ubisoft has already confirmed that series' protagonist Sam Fisher will be making the leap to the PlayStation 4 in the future.

"Sam Fisher and Splinter Cell is a big and very important franchise for Ubisoft, and yes they do support the franchise. Obviously we’re working very hard on current-gen systems and we’re super excited that we’re going to be across all platforms," said Blacklist's art director Scott Lee. "For next-gen there are a lot of plans in the works, obviously we can’t talk about that at the moment but I definitely look forward to seeing Sam in new adventures, bigger and better as we go along."

Although a next-generation Splinter Cell will likely not make it to the limelight at E3, considering it would steal Blacklist's thunder considerably, Lee's statements can let gamers rest assured that this is not the last we've heard of Splinter Cell.
