Method 1: Traditional Calculation1Measure the width, length and height of the cube. Look to the image to know where to measure. Once you have accurate measurements,

write them down W = ____, L = ____ h = ____?

2Multiply the height by the width. This will give you the area of the base square. The equation should look like this, ("h" symbolizing height, "A" symbolizing area, and "W" symbolizing width).

hxW = A area of the base, which would indicate the number of square shapes on or in the base of the cube.3Multiply the area of the square shaped base by the height. This will give you your final answer, the volume. The equation should look like this, ("L" symbolizing length, and "V" symbolizing volume).

LxA = V, the volume.

Method 2: Simple Calculation1Measure one side of the cube. For example, let's say one side measures 2 inches.

2Cube the length of your side. This just means multiplying the number by itself three times: "2 x 2 x 2."

3Do your calculation. We have 2 x 2 x 2 = 8 inches. 8 in3 is the answer.

4Make sure to cube your unit of measurement. This just means putting a "3" behind "inches," like this: in3.
