There are a lot of reasons why someone might want to check out a guide like T Dub Sanders'. One might be interested in the underside of the game testing field. Others might just want to know what they can gain from a guide that is written to help people understand their role in the gaming industry. Others still are just pining for that ultimate career working alongside game developers and designers.

Whatever the reason, T Dub Sanders has put together one of the biggest and best game testing guides on the market – one that shows the underpinnings of the career in their raw, real format. There are no false promises of automatic testing or sitting at home and playing the newest games for hundreds of dollars a day.

That stuff is all pretty much a pipe dream and most people know it – yet many guide writers try to tell everyone that they can become the biggest and best new game testers in a field that doesn't really exist every day and too many fall for it. On the other hand, what T Dub has put together is a much more realistic, much more comprehensive look at what game testing is really about – the hard work and dedication that goes into becoming someone in charge of all that code each day.

By showing what it really takes to be a game tester, T Dub opens up an actual, realistic path to getting into the industry. He showcases skills needed to get started as a tester, the classes or college majors that people better be willing to invest in if they want to be a professional in this field and much more to help them figure out not only if the career path is right for them but if they are going to be cut out for it. That means a great deal for someone who may or may not know exactly what a game tester does and how it operates.

For anyone that is thinking about taking the path toward becoming a game tester, one of the first things that needs to be done is to learn more about what the career entails. Those people should pick up T Dub's newest guide and get a real insider's look at the job and how it really works. If you're serious about doing what T Dub shows you, you'll be on the fast track toward game testing in no time flat.

So, there we have it. E3 has wrapped for another year, leaving a line of floored jaws in its wake as Sony and Microsoft both flexed their next-generation muscles in the shape of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

With both machines due out by the end of the year, platform holders inevitably had a slew of new titles to showcase, though not at the expense of current-generation hardware, which still have plenty of life in them.

Now that E3 is done and dusted, PSU.com were able to take a look back at the wealth of titles and pick the best of the bunch in each major genre category. If that wasn’t enough, we also managed to determine the game of the show – no small feat considering the amount of quality titles on offer.

With that said, we present to you the results of our E3 2013 Awards. Follow the links below to check them out.

The PlayStation 4 promises to deliver a wealth of Indie games which are going to give studios and individuals who don’t have mega budgets the chance to show off their design skills and creative talents.

From indie studio Thekla Inc and the brilliant mind of Jonathan Blow. who won awards for his absorbing time manipulation puzzle platformer game, Braid, comes The Witness, a 3D first person puzzle game where players are stranded on an island and attempt to solve various maze puzzles.

The footage of The Witness shows many different unique areas that players can explore to solve puzzles and we can expect 25 hours worth of gameplay with the promise of no repetition. As well as taxing the brain, The Witness will be a sensory experience, combining striking visuals with an absorbing musical score.

E3 2013 Awards: Best Trailer

E3 2013 presented some of the most dazzling trailers we’ve clapped eyes on in recent years, though if there’s one game that prompted not only rapturous applause from attendees but depicted some truly jaw-dropping footage too, it was Final Fantasy XV.

Yep, the game formally known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII finally reared its head with a new name and a noticeably more action-oriented focus in terms of general gameplay. Developed by Square Enix’s 1st Production Department, FFXV is being directed by series legend Tetsuya Nomura and shifts the series into action-RPG territory, featuring fast-paced realtime combat and flashy acrobatics.

The game will now be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One – and from the trailer, it’s abundantly clear that this is a next-generation Final Fantasy title. Featuring silky-smooth gameplay, stunning visuals and adrenaline-pumping combat, FFXV’s debut trailer is the very personification of eye candy.

E3 2013 Awards - Best PS Vita Game

You are here: Home » Features » Electronic Entertainment Expo [E3... » Tearaway » E3 2013 Awards - Best PS V...

Posted June 14th, 2013 at 07:49 EDT by PSU Staff0 Comments

With 85 PlayStation Vita games in development, owners of Sony’s handheld are going to have a diverse range of titles to choose from that span across multiple genres before the end of the year.

Media Molecule’s quirky and inventive adventure platform game is one of them and it’s no surprise as the development team were the brains behind the incredibly creative LittleBigPlanet.

In Tearaway, players control a paper-covered elk who needs a new skin. You bounce around colourful 3D levels like a traditional platfomer, though there’s nothing at all traditional about the control scheme which is what really sets Tearaway apart.

Touchscreen integration is excellent and intuitive with one of our favourite moments being able to use the back touchpad to seemingly poke your fingers into the game environment to kill enemies.

With all the great touches, such as customisation, eye-catching animation and innovative level design that we’d expect from the team at Media Molecule, it’s clear Tearaway is going to be a lot of fun to play and one of the most unique games to grace Vita this year.

E3 2013 Awards: Best RPG

You are here: Home » Features » Electronic Entertainment Expo [E3... » E3 2013 Awards: Best RPG

Posted June 14th, 2013 at 08:21 EDT by Mike Harradence1 Comments

Of all the RPGs on display this year at E3, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt really grabbed our attention. Developed by CD Projekt RED, The Witcher III plonks players in an open world bigger than any modern RPG, and is said to be 20 per cent bigger than Skyrim’s fantasy-filled landscape. Not only that, but the third entry in the celebrated series will apparently pack 100 hours of gameplay under the hood, and offer a game world that is considerably larger than previous instalments.

Story-wise the game concludes the tale of Geralt, and takes advantage of a brand new game engine, dubbed REDengine 3. This proprietary tech has been crafted specifically with nonlinear RPGs in mind, allowing the developers to craft the sprawling, complex game world that makes up the backdrop to The Witcher III’s multi-thread story. As per usual, players can expect the usual dose of gory, hack-‘n-slash action, heaps of exploration and a boatload of side quests to digest.

E3 2013 Awards: Best Game

You are here: Home » Features » Electronic Entertainment Expo [E3... » Watch_Dogs » E3 2013 Awards: Best Game

Posted June 14th, 2013 at 13:05 EDT by Mike Harradence0 Comments

And so we come inexorably to the Best Game award, which believe us has been no easy choice given the amount of quality games we’ve been clapping eyes on. However, for sheer brilliance, Watch Dogs by Ubisoft has nabbed this particular crown ahead of the competition. Currently under the hammer at Ubisoft Montreal, this open-world sci-fi epic blends high-tech gadgetry with stealth and adventure, with game’s unique concept involving the ability to hack into virtually any electronic device or system at your leisure.

As moody Aiden Pearce, gamers can wage Information Warfare by tapping into everything from cell phones to traffic lights to facilitate your objectives. Similar to its free-running, stab-happy stable mate Assassin’s Creed, Watch Dogs also incorporates elements of parkour, which is not only used for swift navigation of the city but also ties into combat, allowing Pearce to swiftly and surreptitiously dispatch foes. But this is more than just a modern-day Assassin’s Creed.

Powered by the Disrupt engine Watch Dogs offers a sprawling, alternate-reality version of Chicago, Illinois to explore, complete with diverse objectives; one instance you may be assassinating a suspect, another time you’ll be evading the cops or preventing a victim from meeting his or her maker at the hands of would-be assassins. With a unique concept, stunning graphics and open-ended gameplay, Watch Dogs is shaping up to be one of the biggest IPs of the next generation of consoles.

Honorable mentions: The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, The Division, Destiny

E3 2013 Awards: Most Anticipated Game

You are here: Home » Features » Electronic Entertainment Expo [E3... » Metal Gear Solid V... » E3 2013 Awards: Most Antici...

Posted June 14th, 2013 at 06:50 EDT by Mike Harradence3 Comments

Kingdom Hearts III. Final Fantasy XV. Watch_Dogs. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The Order: 1886. Destiny. With so many triple-A titles on the horizon, picking our most anticipated title from this year’s E3 software blowout was no easy task, although ultimately the game that had us frothing at the mouth the most was MGSV.

Hideo Kojima’s latest entry in his celebrated stealth-action franchise takes Snake into an open-world setting for the first time, bringing with it endless possibilities in terms of gameplay. Players are free to approach objectives however they see fit, with the game looking to define the open-world stealth experience.

Set in 1984, The Phantom Pain picks up after the prologue sequence Ground Zeroes, and follows Big Boss after he recovers from a nine-year coma. Now operating under the alias Punished Snake, our grizzled hero forms a new military unit called Diamond Dogs and infiltrates Soviet-occupied Afghanistan, where he encounters long-time rival Ocelot once more.

As well as featuring unprecedented freedom in terms of gameplay, The Phantom Pain also includes real-time weather effects and realistic day and night cycle, and includes a base-building mechanic similar to MGS: Peace Walker.

All in all, Metal Gear Solid V is shaping up to one of the most ambitious titles we’ve seen to date -- and it looks utterly gorgeous to boot.

E3 2013 Awards: Best Shooter

You are here: Home » Features » Electronic Entertainment Expo [E3... » Destiny » E3 2013 Awards: Best Shoote...

Posted June 14th, 2013 at 09:14 EDT by Mike Harradence0 Comments

Amidst the testosterone-fuelled mudslinging between EA and Activision over upcoming juggernauts Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts, Halo studio Bungie delivered a Master Chief-sized boot print on the heads of its rivals with the impressive-looking shooter, Destiny. Yep, forget about contemporary shooters coming this holiday season, as far as PSU.com is concerned, Destiny is THE shooter that won E3.

The scale of Bungie’s blast-'em-up is nothing short of impressive, with the developer trumpeting the fact its sci-fi-thememed, gigantic game world is ‘alive.' Players will encounter in-game events throughout, which are not pre-determined by the game’s creator allowing for an unpredictable, dynamic gameplay experience. Powered by a brand new game engine, Destiny places great emphasis on multiplayer experiences, though eschews much of the traits of traditional MMOs. For example, Bungie has opted for on-the-fly matchmaking, as opposed to the usual process of interacting with players in-game or on a server.

Destiny’s biggest pull however is the game world, taking place in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic setting following an influx of peace and technological advancements known as the Golden Age. However, following an event known as the Collapse, human colonies around the Solar System have dissolved, leaving mankind in a precarious situation. Hostile alien races now occupy the former human colonies, which sees the player – as a member of Guardian of the City – out in force attempting to quell these alien threats and prevent mankind’s extinction.

It’s a bold premise and one filled with legions of unique characters, places and weapons, and more importantly one that is sure to differentiate it from the Halo series. Keep an eye on this one, folks.

E3 2013 Awards: Best Action Game

Posted June 14th, 2013 at 07:40 EDT by Mike Harradence0 Comments

Tom Clancy’s The Division won our action hearts at E3 this year, impressing with its seven-minute gameplay demo at Ubisoft’s press conference. Taking the form of an MMO tactical shooter with a sprinkle of RPG elements thrown in for good measure, The Division is in the works at Ubisoft Massive, and takes full advantage of the power of next-generation consoles – it’s only releasing on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for now, after all.

An ambitious title by anyone’s standards, The Division plucks inspiration from Operation Dark Winter and Directive 51, and sees the United States devastated by a mysterious disease that has crippled the country in just five days. Players form part of a group designed to fight the illness and attempt to preserve what remains at any cost.

Right now much of the game remains a mystery, but what we’ve been shown so far has well and truly got us salivating like maniacs for its release.

No sport’s videogame has evolved as much as Electronic Art’s FIFA series in recent years. Having enjoyed the inclusion of innovative game modes such as Be A Pro and numerous online features including the revolutionary Head To Head seasons, FIFA 14 concentrates on gameplay innovations.

FIFA 14 is the most realistic simulation of the beautiful game yet. On the pitch, enhancements to player movement, ball physics, touch and dribble combine majestically to capture the intensity and thrill of football match.

The new Ignite Engine has helped bring the game even closer to realism which is also reflected in the graphical enhancements of player models, stadiums and the fans. FIFA has dominated the sport’s game genre in recent years and FIFA 14 once again takes things to another level.

E3 2013 Awards: Best Racing Game

You are here: Home » Features » Electronic Entertainment Expo [E3... » Need For Speed Rivals » E3 2013 Awards: Best Racing...

Posted June 14th, 2013 at 04:53 EDT by PSU Staff0 Comments

The Need For Speed franchise took a new direction with its last iteration, providing a new type of competitive racing experience in Most Wanted that had a firm focus on social integration.

In Need For Speed Rivals, the community aspect is still alive with the return of the brilliant Autolog system which allows players to challenge each other on-the-fly, as well as a new feature called AllDrive, which allows players to transition smoothly from single player to multiplayer. Ghost Games describes this new feature as "destroying the line between single player and multiplayer".

Gameplay inspiration has been taken from Hot Pursuit with frenetic high-speed chases with the cops in pursuit. Vehicles can be customised, gadgets - such as roadblocks and shockwaves - can be called in to aid drivers, and the open world of Redview County will be littered with Need For Speed-trademark jumps, speed traps and unlockable cars.

Drifting and handling feels more fluid and enjoyable than ever, high speed races are exhilarating and the open gameworld looks spectacular. Hands-down, Need For Speed: Rivals is one of the most fun games we've played at E3 this year and picks up the award in the BEST RACING category.

Not content with scooping our E3 ‘Best Shooter’ gong, Bungie’s Destiny continues to prove itself a force to be reckoned with as it wins PSU.com’s attention for the Best Multiplayer game of the show. As mentioned in our previous Best Shooter article, Destiny is all about multiplayer action, so much so that Activision is boasting that Bungie’s shooter has an infrastructure of such magnitude that it makes it the biggest multiplayer game in years.

The proof is in the pudding though, and while it’s one thing to throw around PR hype, seeing the game in action is the only way to judge – and boy, does Destiny deliver the goods. The action is seamless, with the Sony E3 presser demo showcasing sumptuously-realised game world ripe for squaddie action and exploration. As well as the main quest, players can effortlessly break off into more traditional MMO trappings and take part in side events (known as Raids here) to keep you busy outside of the core narrative experience. With such a massive scale and gorgeous visuals to go alongside it, Destiny looks to be one of the definitive multiplayer hits of the next generation of consoles.

Ubisoft’s Rocksmith received critical acclaim on its release in 2011, though there was certainly room to improve the guitar playing learning tool/music-based videogame.

Step forward, Rocksmith 2014 which has been tweaked to enhance the experience and make it more intuitive for beginners and expert guitar players to use. The new version will also include 50 new songs and a new Session mode, which looks incredibly good fun.

The suite of tools allows players to create a band to play alongside them. The A.I. musicians in the band follow your tempo and your tone to dynamically adjust its play-style. If this works as well as it did at the behind-the-scenes demo at E3, then music fans have a lot to look forward to.

A collaboration between SCE Japan Studio and Mark Cerney, who has design expertise spanning over two decades with franchises such as Ratchet & Clank, Crash Bandicoot and Resistance, Knack immediately caught our eye at E3.

Knack is an accessible action platformer with a firm focus on fun rather than complexity. This PS4 launch title is extremely addictive and playing as a tiny robot character that can grow or shrink by smashing up parts of the environment is visually impressive, showing off some superb particle effects that showcase the power of the PS4.

The melee-style combat is simple but a lot of fun as you conjure up balls of energy, transform into a whirlwind and send shockwaves through the ground to take down enemies. Knack is going to bring an old-school gaming experience with a next-gen visual twist to PS4 and it’s shaping up to be a game that deserves to be in any gamer’s collection at launch.
