Sony has 'no intention of immediately shifting from the PS3 to the PS4'

With the PlayStation 4 release approaching later this year, some might wonder what will happen to their beloved PlayStation 3 console. Fret not--Sony still plans to support the seven year old console for several years to come.

Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu talked with Sony Computer Entertainment Japan President Hiroshi Kawano about the concern in a recent interview. "It's been seven years since the release of the PS3 and the console continues to sell at a constant pace, plus we have many upcoming titles. We have no intention of immediately shifting from the PS3 to the PS4," said Kawano.

Kawano explained abandoning the PS3 so soon would be a disservice to Sony's consumers because saying, "'we're releasing a new console, so trade in your old ones for it' would be a maker's ego talking, plain and simple."

This is great news to those of us who cannot immediately afford a PS4 or aren't compelled by any of the games available on the console at launch. Seeing the PlayStation 2's long life gives me hope that the PS3 isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
