There are a lot of reasons why someone might want to check out a guide like T Dub Sanders'. One might be interested in the underside of the game testing field. Others might just want to know what they can gain from a guide that is written to help people understand their role in the gaming industry. Others still are just pining for that ultimate career working alongside game developers and designers.

Whatever the reason, T Dub Sanders has put together one of the biggest and best game testing guides on the market – one that shows the underpinnings of the career in their raw, real format. There are no false promises of automatic testing or sitting at home and playing the newest games for hundreds of dollars a day.

That stuff is all pretty much a pipe dream and most people know it – yet many guide writers try to tell everyone that they can become the biggest and best new game testers in a field that doesn't really exist every day and too many fall for it. On the other hand, what T Dub has put together is a much more realistic, much more comprehensive look at what game testing is really about – the hard work and dedication that goes into becoming someone in charge of all that code each day.

By showing what it really takes to be a game tester, T Dub opens up an actual, realistic path to getting into the industry. He showcases skills needed to get started as a tester, the classes or college majors that people better be willing to invest in if they want to be a professional in this field and much more to help them figure out not only if the career path is right for them but if they are going to be cut out for it. That means a great deal for someone who may or may not know exactly what a game tester does and how it operates.

For anyone that is thinking about taking the path toward becoming a game tester, one of the first things that needs to be done is to learn more about what the career entails. Those people should pick up T Dub's newest guide and get a real insider's look at the job and how it really works. If you're serious about doing what T Dub shows you, you'll be on the fast track toward game testing in no time flat.

Destiny on PS4: Bungie releases gameplay demo of PSU's 'shooter that won E3'

You are here: Home » News » Destiny » Destiny on PS4: Bungie releases ...

Posted July 3rd, 2013 at 18:55 EDT by Kyle Prahl9 Comments

Bungie has released the official gameplay reveal of Destiny, its space-operatic post-Halo shooter, on PS4.

The footage below, first seen during Sony's E3 2013 media briefing, depicts Bungie developers teaming up to travel through an immense wall to explore the uncharted territory of Old Russia on the other side. Along the way, they battle various forms of the Fallen, humanoid aliens with a host of imaginative weaponry and evasive manuevers.

The game's loot and equipment systems are also briefly displayed. The demo narrator's character--a Human Warlock--acquires the Thunderlord, an "exotic machinegun" that he purports to be one of Destiny's best weapons. We also get a glimpse at the gun's talent tree, confirming that weapons in Destiny have numerous unlockable upgrades--including radical changes to the weapon's function and power--that can be acquired with talent points.

PSU awarded Destiny our E3 2013 Best Shooter award, recognizing Bungie's next-gen title as "THE shooter that won E3."

Kyle Prahl was mighty disappointed to learn Destiny won't be coming out until next year. You can follow him on Twitter and Facebook for the musings of a PSU Managing Editor.

PS4 gameplay can be broadcast via Ustream profiles, says Ustream's David Thompson

You are here: Home » News » PS4 gameplay can be broadcast vi...

Posted June 18th, 2013 at 14:46 EDT by Kyle Prahl1 Comments

During a webcast discussing the marketing benefits of video streaming, Ustream SVP of Marketing David Thompson confirmed that PS4 gameplay can be streamed to outside platforms beyond the PS4 console itself.

The answer came earlier today in response to a question about whether PS4 gameplay streaming will be tied to Ustream profiles. "The Ustream service is going to be embedded in the PS4," Thompson replied, "so that any gamer will be able to click the Share button on their controller and zap up to the Ustream cloud and broadcast out to his friends, or her friends, on the PS4 console itself or on the Ustream website or the Sony website."

Details about how PS4 game streaming will function has been vague since the console's reveal back in February, when it was confirmed that Ustream would be utilized for game broadcasting. Meanwhile, Gaikai technology will allow players to interact with the broadcasts of their friends in interesting ways, like taking direct control of the game, if invited to do so.

Thompson's words today are the first concrete indication we've received that PS4 streaming can be viewed from other portals, and seems to indicate that PSN accounts in the next generation can be tied to Ustream accounts for things like scheduled programming, a recently popularized gaming trend made possible (though far from convenient) by Twitch.tv.

Broadcasting to Twitch accounts will be possible on Xbox One, making this newly announced feature all the more vital for Sony's competitive efforts in the coming generation.

Posted June 10th, 2013 at 04:28 EDT by Steven Williamson1 Comments

At a pre-E3 event in Los Angeles, Disney Interactive has showcased Disney Infinity, a brand new innovation that takes advantage of both Disney and Pixar characters and storylines.

Disney Infinity takes its inspiration from Skylanders, the game where players could buy models of their favourite characters to use them in-game. Characters include Jack Sparrow, Mr Incredible and Sully from Monsters University. Each character will have its own storyline while a Toy Box mode will allow players to create brand new worlds and game modes.

Up to four players will be supported and users will be able to share their created content.

The video below shows how to game’s Toy Box mode could be used to create a game from every conceivable genre.

Disney Infinity is due to launch on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Wii U and PC on August 18.

Who doesn’t love Nazis? Erm, okay, maybe we should rephrase that. Who doesn’t love blowing the heads off Nazis? That’s more like it, right? Well, there’s going to plenty of opportunity to do just that in Wolfenstein: The New Order, MachineGames upcoming first-person shooter.

Due for release on current gen and next-gen consoles sometime this year, Wolftenstein is set in an alternate history in the 1960s when the Nazis won World War II.

The latest trailer shows some of the history behind the game as well as around 30 seconds of gameplay footage which involves plenty of gunfire, Hitler, mechs and a cackling elderly Nazi lady.

Check it out…

We’ll be checking out Wolfenstein: The New Order at E3 so check back for our hands-on impressions.

A new trailer for Bungie's upcoming online evolving shooter Destiny not only gave a glimpse of the adventures gamers will embark on, but revealed when and where gameplay footage will be unveiled.

The worldwide gameplay reveal will be at Sony's PlayStation E3 press conference on June 10. As Xbox has Call of Duty as a multiplatform shooter which they get exclusive timed content for, Destiny is aligning itself in that way for PlayStation. Back during the PS4 reveal in February, Activision announced that the PlayStation versions of Destiny will receive exclusive content.

Check out the trailer below and stay tuned to PSU for breaking news on Destiny, PS4, and more.
