There are a lot of reasons why someone might want to check out a guide like T Dub Sanders'. One might be interested in the underside of the game testing field. Others might just want to know what they can gain from a guide that is written to help people understand their role in the gaming industry. Others still are just pining for that ultimate career working alongside game developers and designers.

Whatever the reason, T Dub Sanders has put together one of the biggest and best game testing guides on the market – one that shows the underpinnings of the career in their raw, real format. There are no false promises of automatic testing or sitting at home and playing the newest games for hundreds of dollars a day.

That stuff is all pretty much a pipe dream and most people know it – yet many guide writers try to tell everyone that they can become the biggest and best new game testers in a field that doesn't really exist every day and too many fall for it. On the other hand, what T Dub has put together is a much more realistic, much more comprehensive look at what game testing is really about – the hard work and dedication that goes into becoming someone in charge of all that code each day.

By showing what it really takes to be a game tester, T Dub opens up an actual, realistic path to getting into the industry. He showcases skills needed to get started as a tester, the classes or college majors that people better be willing to invest in if they want to be a professional in this field and much more to help them figure out not only if the career path is right for them but if they are going to be cut out for it. That means a great deal for someone who may or may not know exactly what a game tester does and how it operates.

For anyone that is thinking about taking the path toward becoming a game tester, one of the first things that needs to be done is to learn more about what the career entails. Those people should pick up T Dub's newest guide and get a real insider's look at the job and how it really works. If you're serious about doing what T Dub shows you, you'll be on the fast track toward game testing in no time flat.

PS Plus won't be required on PS4 for online movie&TV streaming, social features, and auto-updates

You are here: Home » News » PS Plus won't be required on PS4...

Posted June 18th, 2013 at 12:27 EDT by Ernest Lin18 Comments

While a PlayStation Plus subscription will be required for online multiplayer on the PlayStation 4, it will not be required for many other functions thankfully. Speaking to VideoGamer.com, Sony confirmed a number of features that will not need PS Plus to work including online movie and TV streaming, social features, and the previously Plus-exclusive auto-update ability.

"If you choose not to subscribe we are still gating relatively little in many senses, so access to online catch-up TV and online movie services sit outside of the gate, for example. The social features of PS4 and PS4 games sit out of the subscription service... things like auto-updates on PS4 sit outside of PlayStation Plus, so we're trying to be as balanced and as fair as we possibly can," explained Sony Computer Entertainment Europe UK & Ireland Managing Director Fergal Gara.

"If you choose to pay the subscription, yes, you get one important element of modern-day gameplay, but you also get fantastic value in games, including the PlayStation Plus Edition of DriveClub."

Allowing media streaming from apps such as Netflix and Hulu is a good decision by Sony, who's PlayStation 3 was the top platform for Netflix. My family, like many, very frequently uses their PS3 for Netflix and PS4 is positioned to be another great media device in addition to a gaming console.

Stay tuned to PSU for breaking news on the PS4 and everything PlayStation.

Day 708 to Day 714: Closed Beta #2, UX/UI and new Features

December 10, 2012

Closed Beta #2

Well, we completed our 2nd beta.  This one has generated a lot more interest than the first one. We have already had 528 new beta testers, joining the 366 from the first closed beta.  We are again getting lots of great feedback, with over 290 bug/suggestion reports.  We will have a busy 2 weeks ahead of us as we get these sorted out, and hopefully many of them implemented before the next beta.  It is interesting seeing the dynamics that crop up every beta.   The last beta there was a bug that allowed owners of companies to pay themselves whatever they wanted, and bankrupt the company, going into a hole. Well with that fixed up, this beta, there are now companies that run out of money, and aren’t paying their workers.  Every beta tester in the system is helpful in discovering the different dynamics in the game.  So, we really appreciate all those who have taken the time to participate.

UX/UI Web Designer

Well, we have been using a part-time front end developer to do most of the User Interface work, but with crunch time here, and a lot more User Experience and User Interface work to do, we have hired a full-time UX/UI Web designer to get the final look and feel for all the pages, as well as make sure that the experience is good for all.  We look forward to seeing the updated UI that Daniel brings.

Features vs. Release Date

As we continue through beta, and the feedback grows.  It is always a struggle to figure out which features we can or should implement versus how much time it will take to actually accomplish it, and how will it impact our release date.  Obviously minor features can be added, but some of the suggestions have some major impact on gameplay, and I must say that it is a struggle, to try to make the game full featured, without making it so overwhelming that it won’t get done.  So, if a feature you suggested doesn’t make it into our first release, it may be that we are just considering it in the future.

Citizen of the Week

Our Citizen of the Week this week is D0m0n0 for his tireless work this weekend, not only testing out WorldAlpha over the weekend, but also being very active on IRC in answer questions that other beta testers have.  Congrats D0m0m0!  You have 1,000 EarthBucks coming to you when the game starts.
