There are a lot of reasons why someone might want to check out a guide like T Dub Sanders'. One might be interested in the underside of the game testing field. Others might just want to know what they can gain from a guide that is written to help people understand their role in the gaming industry. Others still are just pining for that ultimate career working alongside game developers and designers.

Whatever the reason, T Dub Sanders has put together one of the biggest and best game testing guides on the market – one that shows the underpinnings of the career in their raw, real format. There are no false promises of automatic testing or sitting at home and playing the newest games for hundreds of dollars a day.

That stuff is all pretty much a pipe dream and most people know it – yet many guide writers try to tell everyone that they can become the biggest and best new game testers in a field that doesn't really exist every day and too many fall for it. On the other hand, what T Dub has put together is a much more realistic, much more comprehensive look at what game testing is really about – the hard work and dedication that goes into becoming someone in charge of all that code each day.

By showing what it really takes to be a game tester, T Dub opens up an actual, realistic path to getting into the industry. He showcases skills needed to get started as a tester, the classes or college majors that people better be willing to invest in if they want to be a professional in this field and much more to help them figure out not only if the career path is right for them but if they are going to be cut out for it. That means a great deal for someone who may or may not know exactly what a game tester does and how it operates.

For anyone that is thinking about taking the path toward becoming a game tester, one of the first things that needs to be done is to learn more about what the career entails. Those people should pick up T Dub's newest guide and get a real insider's look at the job and how it really works. If you're serious about doing what T Dub shows you, you'll be on the fast track toward game testing in no time flat.

PS4 price was set months ago, not a reaction to Xbox One's E3 reveal says Tretton

You are here: Home » News » Electronic Entertainment Expo [E3... » PS4 price was set months ag...

Posted July 2nd, 2013 at 04:15 EDT by Mike Harradence3 Comments

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) head honcho Jack Tretton has said that the PlayStation 4’s E3 price reveal was not a reaction to Microsoft’s own Xbox One announcement earlier that day.

Chatting with IGN, Tretton confirmed the obvious – that the RRP for Sony’s next-generation behemoth was determined months ago. As it happens, Tretton didn’t even catch Microsoft’s E3 presser, so he was none the wiser.

“A multi-billion dollar publicly traded corporation makes those decisions months and months in advance,” said the executive.

“We felt we had a great value proposition that people would respond to but you don’t know how you’re going to be positioned against your competition. We felt good about it regardless of where our competition came in, but lower is better than higher, we learned that with PlayStation 3.”

Sony slapped a $399/£349 price tag on the PS4 at the climax of its E3 press conference a few weeks back. Earlier that day, Microsoft revealed that its Xbox 360 successor would retail for $499, resulting in Sony firmly undercutting its rival.

Still, despite the widespread perception that Sony triumphed at the Los Angeles-based convention, Tretton wisely pointed out that this is simply the start of a 10-year console brawl.

“We were doing rehearsals and I was going through my stuff. I heard a little bit of applause and I figured if there was applause and it was in our arena that was probably good news,” he said.

“I really had to allow myself to enjoy the moment for a couple of minutes after the press conference finished and then you kind of have to shake it off and say, ok, day one of a ten year battle, and we have to win the consumer’s support one consumer at a time, so it’s back in the trenches.”

PS4 is due out this holiday season.

Don't hold your breath for Bethesda's next big game reveal

You are here: Home » News » Don't hold your breath for Bethe...

Posted June 20th, 2013 at 06:39 EDT by Mike Harradence0 Comments

The next title from Todd Howard’s Bethesda Game Studios has no set reveal deadline, Bethesda has said.

“What people need to understand – whether it is Bethesda Game Studios, Arkane or anybody – expecting information like that in any short period of time after they moved off one project to the other is really unrealistic,” vice president Pete Hines told Polygon.

“We are not into annual franchises – just trying to spin out a version of our game year, after year, after year. Like, we have never done that, I don’t see that it is something that we are doing anytime soon. But that doesn’t mean that we are going to take our time and wait six or seven years in between a game that a studio puts out.

“But these are big games that take a long time and folks need to understand that we have a very certain way of going about things.”

Speculation has been raised this week that the next game from Bethesda will be Fallout 4, after reports out of E3 claimed was shown off behind-closed-doors last week.

Bethesda used the Los Angeles event to showcase The Evil Within for the first time, and confirm a home console release for The Elder Scrolls Online.

What would you like to see next from Bethesda Game Studios? Sound off in the comments section below.

Killzone: Shadow Fall impressed Sony enough to make it PS4 reveal centerpiece

You are here: Home » News » Killzone: Shadow Fall » Killzone: Shadow Fall impressed ...

Posted June 19th, 2013 at 04:34 EDT by Lee Millington1 Comments

It has come to light that Killzone: Shadow Fall was not always going to be the headline title at the PlayStation 4's reveal in February. When NowGamer spoke to Eric Boltjes, lead designer at Killzone: Shadowfall's development studio Guerrilla Games, it was revealed that the game impressed Sony enough that it was made so, and it also seems that Guerrilla won influence with their parent company.

The revelation came when NowGamer asked Boltjes if Guerrilla felt the pressure of knowing that their title would be put to the forefront of the PS4's reveal at the PlayStation Meeting in February. Boltjes explained that the studio had not always expected the game to carry that importance.

"We started working on the PS4 title and it became that good that they wanted to make it the centrepiece, which is very flattering. But once we knew that, it brought a lot of pressure."

He continued by explaining how the studio received "a lot of support and a lot of patience from Sony." Boltje claims that Sony has even taken their advice on board. "For example, the controller, we were actually involving in developing the controller as well. We gave tips like hey, can you make the triggers bigger and stuff like that." This might not have been the case had the game not been of such clear importance to Sony.

Killzone: Shadowfall will be one of the PS4's first-party launch titles. Take a look at the lengthy 21-minute gameplay showcase.

Is Killzone: Shadowfall an important PS4 title to you? Let us know in the comments section below.

LittleBigPlanet 3 spotted on resume, could we see a reveal later today?

You are here: Home » News » LittleBigPlanet 3 spotted on res...

Posted June 10th, 2013 at 04:37 EDT by Mike Harradence1 Comments

Sony’s lovable, unofficial mascot SackBoy looks set to star in a third entry in the LittleBigPlanet franchise.

That’s at least according to the resume of James Kearsley, the creative and managing director of animation setup JK Studios, which contains a listing for LittleBigPlanet 3.

Unsurprisingly the link has since been removed but a cached version is available to see here.

LittleBigPlanet 3 was previously rumored to be in development at Sumo Digital, with Media Molecule having taken a step back from the series. This latest listing appears to confirm that JK has done some work on LBP3 for Sumo Digital, with the game believed to have been in development for at least a year now.

With Sony’s E3 press conference due to take place later today, there’s every possibility we’ll hear something on the game there.

Stay tuned to PSU.com for more details.

Eidos Montreal teases Deus Ex: The Fall reveal

You are here: Home » News » Deus Ex Human Revolution 2 » Eidos Montreal teases Deus Ex: T...

Posted June 3rd, 2013 at 22:22 EDT by Steve Chaffin3 Comments

Eidos Montreal, fueling an aura of mystery that has left the gaming community baffled, tweeted today a teaser for Deus Ex: The Fall, reading "Where will YOU take The Fall?" and accompanied by a Vine video snippet. When viewed, a voice asks "Are we ready to begin?" in the background.

In the video game industry, hype is usually the result of some snippet of gameplay, or a few transfixing words from a developer. This is not the case with Deus Ex: The Fall, as aside from a few domains registered by Square Enix and the developer's tweet today, absolutely nothing is known about the project. There has been some speculation that this mysterious title is merely another round of downloadable content for Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but considering the last round of DLC for the game was released in October 2011, it's an unlikely scenario.

The tweet does, however, foreshadow the end of Eidos' secret project, reading "05/06/13" under the header of Deus Ex: The Fall. While nothing can be for certain, we can infer that more information concerning this title will be unveiled in the next couple of days on June 5, and even more information will likely be revealed at this year's E3.

What do you think about Deus Ex: The Fall? Is this just a late round of DLC meant to revive interest in Human Revolution, or is Eidos attempting to garner hype for an ambiguous, standalone sequel? Share your thoughts in the comment section below, and discuss with our community on PSU's official message boards. Stay informed-on the-go with @PSUdotcom.

Snake voice actor mystery teased by Konami, reveal coming at E3 press conference

You are here: Home » News » Metal Gear Solid V: The Pha... » Snake voice actor mystery teased...

Posted May 30th, 2013 at 17:21 EDT by Steve Chaffin1 Comments

This week, Konami released a 16-second, pre-E3 clip teasing the altered voice of Solid Snake in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

For PlayStation gamers in particular, voice actor David Hayter's ability to portray the ever-skeptical and stubborn Solid Snake (and Big Boss) had become a trademark of the series. When it was announced that Hayter would no longer serve as the voice actor for the sequel, many die-hard fans of the franchise were concerned that Snake would suddenly seem unreal and unfamiliar--a strike to the game's authenticity.

(via GameSpot)

As GameSpot's video indicates, we have only to wait for Konami's E3 2013 show (livestreaming exclusively on GameSpot) for the truth of who will voice Snake in MGS V.

Let us know in the comments below, or on our community forums, if you think the change of voice will have any substantial effect on the game. If Snake doesn't sound like himself, will you consider abandoning the title altogether?

Stay tuned at PSU.com, or follow @PSUdotcom for all the latest information regarding Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

The Last of Us reveal was almost spoiled by Uncharted 3 easter egg, admits Naughty Dog

You are here: Home » News » The Last of Us » The Last of Us reveal was almost...

Posted May 30th, 2013 at 00:57 EDT by Steve Chaffin5 Comments

When Uncharted 3 released in 2011 to critical acclaim, it was almost a year later when gamers took note of a small, in-game easter egg. Creative director Neil Druckmann and game director Bruce Straley have revealed that the easter egg, which was designed to tease The Last of Us, was an accident and the result of scheduling changes and sheer forgetfulness.

The tease appears as a newspaper located in the corner of the pub in Uncharted 3's first chapter. It reads, "Scientists still struggling to understand deadly virus," a clear reference to Naughty Dog's upcoming survival-thriller The Last of Us. When the title was officially announced at the Spike Video Game Awards in December 2011, Naughty Dog had already been working on the title in secret for some time and had intended to announce it at E3 several months prior. Based on the original schedule, the Easter egg was harmlessly added to Uncharted 3 as a way to garner greater excitement for what was supposed to be an already-announced title.

When the schedule changed, however, and the reveal of The Last of Us was moved to after the release of Uncharted 3, the developer forgot to remove the newspaper, thus nearly causing internet sleuths to spoil the game's existence early.

Druckmann, in an interview with Kotaku, (via Polygon) put it bluntly: "We should have taken it out," he said. "We screwed up."

In the same interview, Straley briefly attempted to explain the reason why such a potentially destructive mistake was overlooked:

"These games are so big, right. They're several hours long. Every single pixel has to be touched. Every animation is created from hand. It's overwhelming. You can't look over every detail," he said. "So this one little thing in the background, nobody's thinking about that."

Fortunately for Naughty Dog, most gamers and journalists deemed it unlikely that the traditionally one-game studio would be working on another title in such rapid fashion after Uncharted 3, let alone simultaneously. Thus, the reveal of The Last of Us one month after the launch of Uncharted 3 created the very anticipation and excitement the developer had hoped for.

Explaining the general reaction to the easter egg, Druckmann said, "It can't be Naughty Dog, because they just shipped Uncharted 3."

Double Fine Productions reveal incoming, is not a sequel or port

You are here: Home » News » Double Fine Productions reveal i...

Posted May 30th, 2013 at 07:16 EDT by Mike Harradence0 Comments

Tim Schafer’s Double Fine Productions has revealed that it’s planning an imminent announcement, though for what exactly remains a mystery.

However, Schafer did provide a few tidbits on Twitter, confirming the reveal won’t be for a sequel or a port. So, from that we can assume it’s a new IP.

It’s worth remembering that Double Fine has been experimenting with PlayStation 4, after Sony approached the Brutal Legend developer in regards to making games for the new console.

It’s also set up a Kickstarter for the adventure title Broken Age.

Double Fine found cult success with the title Psychonauts in 2005, and players have been clamouring for a follow-up ever since. With Schafer’s assertion the impending reveal won't pertain to a sequel however, we can safely rule that out – at least for now.

Stay tuned.

A new trailer for Bungie's upcoming online evolving shooter Destiny not only gave a glimpse of the adventures gamers will embark on, but revealed when and where gameplay footage will be unveiled.

The worldwide gameplay reveal will be at Sony's PlayStation E3 press conference on June 10. As Xbox has Call of Duty as a multiplatform shooter which they get exclusive timed content for, Destiny is aligning itself in that way for PlayStation. Back during the PS4 reveal in February, Activision announced that the PlayStation versions of Destiny will receive exclusive content.

Check out the trailer below and stay tuned to PSU for breaking news on Destiny, PS4, and more.

Sony stock soars as yawnworthy Xbox reveal wraps up

You are here: Home » News » Sony stock soars as yawnworthy X...

Posted May 21st, 2013 at 14:17 EDT by Kyle Prahl22 Comments

Did you tune in for Microsoft's reveal of Xbox One, the next-generation Xbox system set to compete with PlayStation 4? The show just wrapped up. Here's what Microsoft had to show:

TV shows
Sports
Kinect
Sports
Fantasy Football
Exclusive FIFA DLC
Forza Motorsport 5
NFL, Sports
Halo TV series
Call of Duty: Ghosts

Am I exaggerating? Not really. And investors seem to agree: a quick Google search reveals that Sony Corporation stock is soaring in the wake of Microsoft's reveal event. In the last hour or so, Sony's stock price has risen 9.1 percent to $22.87. So far, that's 9.16 percent up on the day. Things are constantly updating, though--Google "Sony Corporation stock" to say up-to-date on the situation.

Kyle Prahl thought Call of Duty: Ghosts looked pretty cool, and he'll be buying it on PS4. Follow him on Twitter for E3 2013 coverage.

Hardcore gamers need look no further than PS4 as Xbox One reveal disappoints

You are here: Home » Features » Hardcore gamers need look no fur...

Posted May 22nd, 2013 at 07:02 EDT by Steven Williamson10 Comments

After Microsoft’s Xbox One reveal yesterday, hardcore gamers can be safe in the knowledge that at least there will be one console released this year that caters for their needs.

PlayStation 4 looks set to be the next-gen console that gives hardcore players exactly what they want; games, while Xbox One’s role in the future appears to be nothing more than a glorified Smart T.V., a gimmicky, voice and gesture controlled, home entertainment system where games take a back-seat to the familiar practice of watching sport, T.V. and dabbling with apps such as Skype, which we’ve been doing for years on PC.

Xbox One revealed yesterday at Home of Microsoft in Redmond

While Microsoft used the big stage to talk about all the great ways gamers can watch T.V. on their Xbox One and move seamlessly between applications by barking out orders like “Xbox Go Home”, Sony took a different tact during its PS4 reveal in February. At this showcase, Sony talked about the games we can look forward to, how it will be encouraging social interaction around those titles, and how it will support indie game developers with a fairer business model to encourage even more games on the platform. "Our vision for the future is consumer centric and developer inspired," said Sony Computer Entertainment president and group CEO Andrew House.

While Sony showed off and revealed games such as Knack, InFamous: Second Son, The Witness, Drive Club and Deep Down, Microsoft gave a glimpse of Forza 5 and showcased Call Of Duty: Ghosts (also available on PS4.) Most of the time was spent navigating a wealth of media options with their voices, showcasing enhanced Kinect functionality and talking about mundane features, such as NFL integration and the ability to interact with your fantasy team. Who cares, really?

Sony focuses on the games at PS4 reveal

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for Xbox fans though as Microsoft did reveal 15 exclusives coming to the franchise over the next 12 months. But, how many of those will be made for Kinect 2, which no-one will care about, and how many will be a repeat of existing franchises such as Halo, whose course is already well-trodden on Xbox?

It’s still early days, but initial impressions based on the two big reveal events show two very different mind-sets. While Microsoft is concentrating on replacing the set-top box (nothing will replace my brilliant Sky Plus service) and pushing voice technology, even though it’s far more intuitive to just use a controller (I've been doing that for years), Sony is thinking about the gamers, the games it will make and how it will encourage others to develop for its platform. I know where my money will be going.

The PlayStation 4 will be fully unveiled at E3, Sony has confirmed in a new teaser video.

Up until now Sony has remained tight-lipped as to what its next-generation console will actually look like, but that’s all set to change come June 10.

Check out the teaser video below, which shows a blurry glimpse at PS4’s design ahead of its full reveal.

Excited yet?

Rumor: Resident Evil 7 set for E3 reveal

A leaked poster suggests Capcom is gearing up for a Resident Evil 7 reveal at E3 next month.

The image appeared on Boxden, where it is alleged that the logo was meant to have been kept in the dark for a while.

Check it out below.

Of course, this should be treated with a huge spoonful of salt until we hear otherwise. The fact Resident Evil 6 only hit stores in October makes us question whether or not Capcom would churn out a follow-up so quickly, however.

Stay tuned for more info as we get it.
