Video games will no longer be offered by U.K. rental giant Lovefilm, the company has announced.
Writing in a post on the Lovefilm Q&A, the firm, which offers a variety of TV and films available to rent by post, commented:
“We are no longer offering game rental packages to either new customers, or those who wish to change from a non-games package.”
“In order to give the best possible service that we can, we are looking to focus on our strength, which is providing the best selection of film and TV content for our customers, and making it available whenever and wherever you want it.”
Owned by Amazon, Lovefilm’s biggest competitor is of course U.S.-based giant Netflix, which offers TV and films via a streaming service. Unsurprisingly, Netflix also does not supply games to its customers.
Lovefilm is available for a variety of formats, including but not limited to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Next-generation consoles will also support Netflix, though Lovefilm has yet to make any announcements on the matter.
Stay tuned.
