There are a lot of reasons why someone might want to check out a guide like T Dub Sanders'. One might be interested in the underside of the game testing field. Others might just want to know what they can gain from a guide that is written to help people understand their role in the gaming industry. Others still are just pining for that ultimate career working alongside game developers and designers.

Whatever the reason, T Dub Sanders has put together one of the biggest and best game testing guides on the market – one that shows the underpinnings of the career in their raw, real format. There are no false promises of automatic testing or sitting at home and playing the newest games for hundreds of dollars a day.

That stuff is all pretty much a pipe dream and most people know it – yet many guide writers try to tell everyone that they can become the biggest and best new game testers in a field that doesn't really exist every day and too many fall for it. On the other hand, what T Dub has put together is a much more realistic, much more comprehensive look at what game testing is really about – the hard work and dedication that goes into becoming someone in charge of all that code each day.

By showing what it really takes to be a game tester, T Dub opens up an actual, realistic path to getting into the industry. He showcases skills needed to get started as a tester, the classes or college majors that people better be willing to invest in if they want to be a professional in this field and much more to help them figure out not only if the career path is right for them but if they are going to be cut out for it. That means a great deal for someone who may or may not know exactly what a game tester does and how it operates.

For anyone that is thinking about taking the path toward becoming a game tester, one of the first things that needs to be done is to learn more about what the career entails. Those people should pick up T Dub's newest guide and get a real insider's look at the job and how it really works. If you're serious about doing what T Dub shows you, you'll be on the fast track toward game testing in no time flat.

Watchdogs video showcases multiplayer hacking

You are here: Home » News » Watch Dogs » Watchdogs video showcases multip...

Posted June 21st, 2013 at 08:36 EDT by Will Robinson1 Comments

Ubisoft has launched a gameplay video detailing the functionality of Watch Dog’s multiplayer. Players face off in a game of cat and mouse, where one player is placed into the game world of the other.

The video shows the player controlling the game’s main protagonist Aiden Pearce as he is instructed to hunt down another player and stop them, either through technological savvy or by simply killing them. Once Aiden’s mission is finished, whatever the outcome may be, the roles are switched and Aiden is now the hacker being hunted. As shown in the footage, a skilled enough player can finish a match without their opponent even knowing they were there.

Ubisoft removed the video from YouTube shortly after it was posted, but they clearly weren’t quick enough as Geek Mundo reposted the video. Check out the video below to see the dueling hacker multiplayer of Watch Dogs.

Watch Dogs will be available on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC this November and Q4 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Naval battles absent from Assassin's Creed 4 multiplayer, dev says

You are here: Home » News » Assassin's Creed IV: Black ... » Naval battles absent from Assass...

Posted June 20th, 2013 at 17:58 EDT by Steve Chaffin0 Comments

The creative director for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Ashraf Islamil, said in an interview with Gamespot that the game's multiplayer will not feature naval battles.

Naval battles, introduced to the series in Assassin's Creed III and met with positive reviews, is expected to be a prominent part of the Assassin's Creed 4 experience.  Until now, whether or not naval battles would come to the increasingly popular multiplayer mode was a matter of much discussion among the gaming community.

"Naval multiplayer, unfortunately, we don't have it," Ismail said.  "It's someting we tried at the beginning, but we didn't feel we can get it to a good enough level for this iteration."

While this news will likely incite much disappointment, it is refreshing to see a developer making difficult decisions for the sake of quality-control.  Despite my desire to take the reigns against my friends and other players internationally, I am grateful that Ubisoft won't be wasting gamers' time by adding a broken feature to an otherwise enjoyable multiplayer exprience.

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag will be releasing for the PS3 on October 29 in North America, and for the PS4 at the console's launch, which may have been leaked.

Voice your thoughts below.

Thanks, VG247.

PS4's Killzone: Shadow Fall download split into single-player, multiplayer

You are here: Home » News » Killzone: Shadow Fall » PS4's Killzone: Shadow Fall down...

Posted June 19th, 2013 at 08:25 EDT by Mike Harradence2 Comments

PlayStation 4 will allow users to split their download of Killzone: Shadow Fall into two distinct flavours: single-player and multiplayer.

That’s according to a new PS4 video interface video, which showcases how one can happily plug away at a game (in this case, Knack) before seamlessly transition to the PlayStation Store to purchase Killzone and then returning to your game.

Those of you who are perhaps more interested in playing one particular aspect of a title like Killzone will no doubt be pleased you can opt to download the area which interests you most first without having to wait for the full product.

What do you think of PS4’s new download interface? Are you the type to download separate components of a game or do you instead prefer to grab the full product in a single move? Let us know in the comments section below.

E3 2013 Awards: Best Multiplayer

You are here: Home » Features » Electronic Entertainment Expo [E3... » Destiny » E3 2013 Awards: Best Multip...

Not content with scooping our E3 ‘Best Shooter’ gong, Bungie’s Destiny continues to prove itself a force to be reckoned with as it wins PSU.com’s attention for the Best Multiplayer game of the show. As mentioned in our previous Best Shooter article, Destiny is all about multiplayer action, so much so that Activision is boasting that Bungie’s shooter has an infrastructure of such magnitude that it makes it the biggest multiplayer game in years.

The proof is in the pudding though, and while it’s one thing to throw around PR hype, seeing the game in action is the only way to judge – and boy, does Destiny deliver the goods. The action is seamless, with the Sony E3 presser demo showcasing sumptuously-realised game world ripe for squaddie action and exploration. As well as the main quest, players can effortlessly break off into more traditional MMO trappings and take part in side events (known as Raids here) to keep you busy outside of the core narrative experience. With such a massive scale and gorgeous visuals to go alongside it, Destiny looks to be one of the definitive multiplayer hits of the next generation of consoles.

PS4 pay to play online - PS Plus members get online multiplayer access

You are here: Home » News » Electronic Entertainment Expo [E3... » PS4 pay to play online - PS...

Posted June 11th, 2013 at 01:13 EDT by Steven Williamson10 Comments

Though details are still a little sketchy, it appears that PlayStation 4 owners will need to be members of PlayStation Plus in order to access online multiplayer sessions.

As you can see from the tweet below, sent by the official PlayStation account, it states that “PS4 gamers who aren’t PlayStation Plus members can still enjoy single player games for free.”

During the presentation, Sony also showed a slide that stated that “immersive multiplayer online” was part of the PlayStation Plus service.

PlayStation Plus cost $49.99 a year and gives users early access to beta phases, demos and free games. Users also get the ability to save files straight to the cloud.

Stay tuned for more news from E3 throughout the week.

The Last of Us multiplayer revealed in new screenshots

You are here: Home » News » The Last of Us » The Last of Us multiplayer revea...

Posted June 3rd, 2013 at 22:58 EDT by Steve Chaffin2 Comments

With June 14, the release date of the highly anticipated The Last of Us, right around the corner, developer Naughty Dog has finally begun revealing details of the game's multiplayer mode, which has until now been under a strict veil of secrecy.

The name of the game's multiplayer, although currently unconfirmed, is rumored to be "Factions," and will consist initially of two game modes.

A few aspects of the game's multiplayer are parallel to those of Uncharted's multiplayer modes. Players will be prompted upon starting Factions to chose one of two human factions, both of which are seen and interacted with in the game's campaign. Upon selecting the faction of choice, players can then customize their character's apparel and gear. Increasingly common among multiplayer modes, players will also have a customizable emblem at their disposal.

In one game mode, matches take place during a number of days and weeks, each round counting as one day. Somewhat new (or returning) to the realm of multiplayer is the large presence of A.I. Each faction comes with a group of A.I. survivors, and as Factions progresses over several rounds, the number of survivors will rise and fall accordingly. Whether or not survivors can be utilized strategically in any way is unknown.

Moreover, Naughty Dog is aiming to keep a certain connection between single-player and multiplayer. Instead of taking away a number of the campaign's main features and making a dissimilar online experience, most of the game's core experiences are retained in the multiplayer, including the ability to craft items and gather resources.

The multiplayer mode also features four preset loadouts, bearing the titles Assault, Support, Sniper, and Stealth. Each contains four slots that can be filled with both a large and small weapon, and two skills. While little is known about the specific weapons or skills available to players to utilize, one confirmed skill has been dubbed Covert Training 2, allowing players to become invisible when enemies are using Listen Mode, another ability that permits players to see enemies through walls.

Naughty Dog has also released its first batch of screenshots for The Last of Us. Check out a couple below, and peep the others in our official game gallery.

The Last of Us will get story DLC, two multiplayer packs

You are here: Home » News » The Last of Us » The Last of Us will get story DL...

Posted June 2nd, 2013 at 11:51 EDT by Kyle Prahl4 Comments

A recent blog post by Naughty Dog community strategist Eric Monacelli details what you can expect for continued support of The Last of Us down the line post-release.

We have yet to see neither hide nor hair of the game's elusive multiplayer mode (though we can confirm that it exists; stay tuned for our review next week), two of the game's three planned DLC packs will be multiplayer expansions with new maps and other additions. The other will be single-player DLC: "The journey and cast of characters in The Last of Us lends itself to thorough narrative exploration and we’ve got more of the story to tell."

More content may be planned beyond these three packs, but that's all you'll get with the $19.99 Season Pass (a 30 percent savings off the eventual price of all three), except for these Day 1 bonuses:

Increased Crafting Speed
Increased Healing Speed
9mm Reload Speed Upgrade
Rifle Clip Capacity Upgrade
Grounded – exclusive 90min “Making of The Last of Us” documentary

I imagine (or, hope) that these upgrades are optional--I'm a stickler for the intended experience, and I'd like to earn my upgrades in a survival horror game, thank you very much.

All that said, we've gone hands-on with The Last of Us twice (here and here) and it's shaping up to be everything we've dreamed since its VGA 2011 reveal. But, will it be "gaming's Citizen Kane moment"? You'll have to check back for our review to find out.

Kyle Prahl is exceedingly excited for The Last of Us, which should make a great post-E3 gift to himself. You can follow him on Twitter and Facebook.

Naughty Dog teases The Last of Us multiplayer yet again

The Last of Us’ single-player campaign has endured a hefty amount of time in the limelight over the past 12 months or so, but something that still continues to remain elusive just a fortnight ahead of the game’s release is the multiplayer offering.

Developer Naughty Dog has kept mum on its online component for the hotly-anticipated post-apocalyptic adventure, leaving many to question whether it’ll be up to scratch, let alone what it’ll consist of.

However, with the game’s release due in mind-June, the company has taken to the PlayStation Blog to drip-feed us a few new tidbits on the elusive mode.

Specifically, Eric Monacelli, community strategist at Naughty Dog, confirmed the multiplayer “continues the themes, tone and tension from the single-player campaign.” Fresh details are expected “over the next couple of days.”

Naughty Dog previously confirmed that The Last of Us will receive three DLC packs.

Rockstar to unveil GTA V multiplayer info 'soon'

Posted May 20th, 2013 at 08:21 EDT by Mike Harradence0 Comments

Rockstar will reveal details on Grand Theft Auto V’s multiplayer component “soon.”

Details on the game’s online mode have been kept under wraps since the crime sequel’s unveiling in late 2011; however, all that look set to change soon enough.

Writing on its official website, the company said that those of us awaiting news on the game’s multiplayer offering should “stay tuned for first info soon.”

“We haven’t detailed the features of Grand Theft Auto V’s online mode as yet (stay tuned for first info soon),” said Rockstar, “but there’s already a whole slew of Crews rallying, preparing and raring to go.”

GTA V is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September. The game features the largest open-world in Rockstar history, and allows players to jump freely between three playable protagonists.

Sadly the game won’t be showcased at E3 next month, but Rockstar plans to reveal new info via a series of dedicated events over the summer.

Stay tuned to PSU.com for more details.
