Retail giant GameStop said in its post-earnings financial call this week that it expects next-generation machines from Sony and Microsoft to launch at a cheaper entry point than PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
The company’s chief financial officer, Ro Lloyd, said that PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will release at a “lower opening price than they did last cycle.”
PS3 was released in the U.S. in November 2006 and came in two flavours: 20GB and 60GB, which cost $499 and $599, respectively.
Xbox 360 on the other hand launched a year earlier and retailed for $399 and $299 for the 20GB Premium and Core units, respectively.
Sony will launch the PS4 in holiday 2013, with Microsoft also releasing the Xbox One later this year.
