This article will teach you how to properly choose and apply concealer for a beautiful complexion! Edit StepsPart One: Choosing the Right Concealer1Visit the makeup counter with a clean face. It will be a lot easier to find the right color if you have no other makeup on.If you have other makeup on, ask a sales associate for some lotion or makeup remover before testing colors.2Be sure you are in a well-lit area. The appearance of makeup can change dramatically depending on the lighting. Use natural light when possible.3Choose a concealer that is one to two shades lighter than your foundation. [1]
If you don't use an overall foundation, choose a concealer that is one to two shades lighter than your natural skin color. To find the right foundation, apply a few different shades to your jawline, and use a hand mirror to determine which one best blends in with the rest of your skin. Once you have found the right foundation, find a concealer that is one to two shades lighter.Test the concealer on your problem areas. You will need a lighter color for under-eye circles and dark spots than you will for blemishes or redness.Ask a sales associate at the makeup counter to help match you with the right color if you are having trouble doing it yourself.4Test multiple shades before buying one. Remember that you don't have to stick to one brand or even one store. Experiment!
Part Two: Applying Concealer1Wash and moisturize your face. The moisturizer will help set the makeup, and keep your skin from getting too dry.
2Choose a well-lit area to apply your makeup. This will ensure that your concealer is applied evenly, and that you haven't missed any blemishes or dark spots. For best results, use natural light.3Apply concealer to under-eye circles.
Apply several dots of concealer underneath your lashes and to the inner corners of your eyes using your finger, a Q-tip, or an applicator wand. Gently blend in the concealer using a quick tapping motion with your index or middle finger. Don't rub too hard, as the skin around your eye is very delicate, and you will end up wiping the concealer off.
4Cover up blemishes and/or scars.
Apply the concealer to the red areas using your finger or a Q-tip. Gently rub the concealer in, allow it to dry completely, and then add another layer if necessary.5Apply foundation over the concealer, if desired. This will help further blend in the concealer and create an even, smooth complexion.
While it is generally recommended that you apply concealer before applying overall foundation, the order in which you do this will depend on your skin type and the makeup you are using. Experiment to determine which method works best for you.
This tutorial covers liquid, highlighter and cream concealers.Edit TipsMany major department stores offer free makeup consultations and color-matching sessions. Take advantage of this service to get the most out of your makeup.Set the concealer with a powder to create an even overall complexion and reduce oiliness.Use undereye concealers that have a peachy undertone to counteract the purple and blue shades found in dark circles.Wash all of your makeup off before going to bed. Leaving makeup on overnight will dry out your skin, clog your pores, and increase the likelihood for developing breakouts or other skin irritations.
