There are a lot of reasons why someone might want to check out a guide like T Dub Sanders'. One might be interested in the underside of the game testing field. Others might just want to know what they can gain from a guide that is written to help people understand their role in the gaming industry. Others still are just pining for that ultimate career working alongside game developers and designers.

Whatever the reason, T Dub Sanders has put together one of the biggest and best game testing guides on the market – one that shows the underpinnings of the career in their raw, real format. There are no false promises of automatic testing or sitting at home and playing the newest games for hundreds of dollars a day.

That stuff is all pretty much a pipe dream and most people know it – yet many guide writers try to tell everyone that they can become the biggest and best new game testers in a field that doesn't really exist every day and too many fall for it. On the other hand, what T Dub has put together is a much more realistic, much more comprehensive look at what game testing is really about – the hard work and dedication that goes into becoming someone in charge of all that code each day.

By showing what it really takes to be a game tester, T Dub opens up an actual, realistic path to getting into the industry. He showcases skills needed to get started as a tester, the classes or college majors that people better be willing to invest in if they want to be a professional in this field and much more to help them figure out not only if the career path is right for them but if they are going to be cut out for it. That means a great deal for someone who may or may not know exactly what a game tester does and how it operates.

For anyone that is thinking about taking the path toward becoming a game tester, one of the first things that needs to be done is to learn more about what the career entails. Those people should pick up T Dub's newest guide and get a real insider's look at the job and how it really works. If you're serious about doing what T Dub shows you, you'll be on the fast track toward game testing in no time flat.

Pin ItArticle EditDiscussIf you've never eaten sushi before but want to try it, you might feel intimidated by unfamiliar food, presentation, and traditions. The flavor (and your experience) of sushi is greatly influenced not only by how it's prepared, but also by how you eat it. These guidelines will help you know what to expect and how to thoroughly enjoy your first sushi adventure.

Edit Steps1Choose a reputable sushi restaurant. This is especially important for the first-time sushi eater. Poorly prepared fish can ruin the experience and make you never want to eat sushi again, especially if you're not particularly fond of seafood to begin with. You can do more experimenting with where you eat once you've had a few positive experiences with sushi, but when you're starting out, play it safe.

If you're nervous about trying sushi for the first time, try salmon sushi Nigiri style, which is more mild than other types of raw sushi.Just because it's more expensive doesn't mean the quality is better. If you know any Japanese people, ask them to recommend a place. If you don't have any Japanese acquaintances, find an Asian grocery and ask someone who works there, or find a local food forum and request advice there.Check the menu for warning signs that the quality might not be good [1]:

"all you can eat" sushi for a fixed pricemenu items not listed in Japanesemost of the items are rolled sushi with names like Oriental Delightmore than half of the available ingredients are cooked

2Sit at the sushi bar if you can. This will give you the opportunity to interact with the sushi chef and inspect the quality of the fish (which should be on display, and should not look dry).

3Place your order. Order the sushi items directly from the chef if possible and order non-sushi items from a server (never from the chef). Ask him what he recommends, and if you can have whatever he thinks is freshest. Since sushi has raw fish, the fresher it is, the better it'll taste. Be careful in how you phrase it, though. Asking "Is it fresh?" might be insulting, because it implies that some of the fish might not be fresh. Just ask for whatever is freshest. If you want to eat something while the sushi is being prepared, ask for edamame (boiled soy beans), suimono (clear broth) or misoshiru (fermented soy bean soup). Choose from green tea, beer, sake, or water to drink; soft drinks will overpower the subtle flavors of sushi. Here is an overview of the kinds of sushi you can try:

Sashimi - Slices of raw fish (without rice)

Nigiri - A slice of raw fish over an oval of rice

Maki- Typically one or two types of fish or vegetable rolled with rice in a sheet of roasted seaweed and cut into bite-sized portions. A good starting point for people who are squeamish about eating raw fish.

Temaki - Similar to maki, except the ingredients are rolled into a cone shape that you hold and bite into the way you would a taco.

4Clean your hands before eating sushi. Many sushi bars will provide a hot moist towel for this purpose prior to serving food. Although many people choose to use chopsticks, it is entirely acceptable to eat sushi with your hands.

5Know your condiments. Typically, a plate of sushi will include wasabi (the green ball of paste) and pickled ginger (thin, pink slices placed right next to the wasabi). In addition, you will be provided a small shallow dish to dip your sushi in soy sauce. Pour soy sauce in the tiny plate, half-full or less.

Be careful when dipping Nigiri into the soy sauce. If you dip the rice into the soy sauce, it will fall apart. Instead, take the whole piece in your hands and dip it in the soy sauce fish end down.If the sushi already has sauce on it, do not dip it in the soy sauce. Try enjoying it as the chef seasoned it.

Alternatively, you can use chopsticks to dip the ginger in the soy sauce, and then use it to brush the sauce onto the fish rather than dip the fish directly. This gives just the "essence" of ginger, and the ginger is then not directly eaten.Don't overdo it on the wasabi. It is very easy to overpower the delicate flavors of sushi with a heavy combination of soy sauce and wasabi. Taste the sushi without extra wasabi first, then add a small amount directly to each piece if you desire. Be aware that sometimes nigiri has wasabi tucked in between the fish and rice; sushi prepared this way rarely needs extra wasabi. Although some people choose to mix the wasabi paste with the soy sauce, this practice makes it hard to control the balance of spicy and salty flavors and may be considered disrespectful to the sushi chef.

6Eat the sushi in one bite. If the piece is too big, eat it in two bites. Pay attention to both the flavors and the textures. You may be surprised with how mild and tender the fish is. Remember that you're not supposed to be overwhelmed with strength of flavor here, but with the balance of flavors and textures. Take the time to enjoy it!

7Refresh your mouth with a slice of ginger, particularly between eating different types of sushi. Do not eat it in the same bite as sushi.

8Don't eat everything on your plate. It is considered rude to finish everything because it implies that the chef did not make enough.

Edit Video

Edit TipsReal wasabi is very expensive; it is actually a root, and at finer establishments, it will look more like shreds. In addition, it will NOT be eye-watering like the green paste. The green paste is actually cheaper horseradish with food coloring added.Read about sushi etiquette before dining so that you don't accidentally insult the chef or the culture.Higher quality pickled ginger will be white; the pink color of most is from pre-made ginger in a jar which has had food coloring added to it. While both are (usually) very good, the paler variety is more subtle and complex.

Edit WarningsEven though the wasabi is there on your plate, it's sometimes considered bad manners to add some to each piece before you eat it, when the sushi chef has already placed some wasabi on the rice roll. If you add more wasabi, you are essentially telling the chef that he or she did not do a good job.If you have not tried wasabi before, be careful with using it as a condiment. It can be extremely spicy, do not use too much of it. Try a tiny bit first to see how you handle it.Eating uncooked fish, shellfish and meat may put you at risk for serious food-borne illnesses, including food poisoning, hepatitis, parasites, and liver damage. While this is unlikely at respectable sushi restaurants, think twice before having sushi that's been sitting out for who knows how long at a buffet made by who-knows-who.

The ways used to grow crops and raise animals can have either good or bad impacts on biodiversity. On one hand, farmers can support biodiversity through careful farming methods. On the other hand, if farmers are not careful, the environment and organisms on and near the farm can be harmed. This article explains how teachers can teach the possible impacts of farming on biodiversity and provides some ideas for what a farmer can do to mitigate negative consequences to biodiversity. Students can apply this information for projects or for interactions with a local farming community to share knowledge between each other.

Edit Steps1Explain the impacts of pesticides use. Using pesticides can have unexpected and unwanted side effects. Often, the same chemicals that farmers apply to get rid of crop pests harm other species living around the farm. Some of these species may actually help to control the real crop pests! For example, DDT (Dichloro-Diphenyl-Trichloroethane) is a powerful pesticide that is poisonous to not only insects, but also animals and humans. DDT is so powerful it was banned in many countries, however, some countries that face malaria problems still use it to kill mosquitoes.2Teach about the impacts of overuse of natural resources. If farmers are not careful in their use of natural resources, farming activities can decrease the amount of resources available to grow food. When there are not enough nutrients in the soil, farmers often buy chemical fertilizers. Using fertilizers can help grow more food, but using too much can pollute the water. Polluted water affects organisms that drink the water or that live in it. For example, too many pollutants can kill fish. Water pollutants also affect our health, as it decreases the amount of clean water to drink, wash and grow crops.3Explore the impacts of industrial farming. Some industrial farms mass-produce a few select breeds in their quest to produce more meat, milk or eggs. This practice, however, leads to a decline in livestock diversity. The same principle applies to crops. As the number of varieties decreases, existing crops become increasingly at risk to destruction by disease and pests. If crops are all identical, it is much easier for a new disease or pest to wipe out an entire harvest. The less diversity farmers maintain, the greater the risk of diseases and pests. This increase in risk means farmers apply more pesticides to the crop fields or administer antibiotics to the animals.4Help students to be aware of the interconnections between farming and negative biodiversity impacts. Farming usually changes the landscape, the water, the air and biodiversity. For example:

Construction workers build roads so that trucks can pick up farm produce and take it to markets. When farmers cut trees to create space for growing crops or raising livestock, they also reduce natural water filtration (cleaning) and available habitats for many species.Tractors and other farm machinery emit air pollutants. In some areas, farming brings enormous changes to the landscape. In parts of the Amazon, large tracts of forests have been cut down and replaced by monoculture (one crop) farming or pastures for cattle grazing. These changes reduce the number and variety of habitats available for species. Without suitable habitats, hundreds of species, including trees, vines, plants, birds, snakes, frogs and mammals, can no longer live in the area. The end result is a loss of biodiversity.5Have the students research the positive interconnections between farming and biodiversity. There are also many positive examples of how farmers find a perfect balance between agriculture and biodiversity. For instance:

In some areas, the land does not change much. Some farmers use the landscape as it is. For example, grasslands are natural pastures for many farm animals or wild herbivores. Many farmers do not fence in these natural pastures so that wild herbivores can use them too. Leaving the pastures open can be risky – carnivores may prey on farm animals.Other farmers design their farms to minimize changes to the natural landscape. They might even try to enhance biodiversity on and around the farm. They can promote biodiversity by using sustainable farming methods such as including both plants and trees in one field, using little or no pesticides and planting a variety of crops.6Explore the ways in which agricultural activities that promote and protect biodiversity. There are numerous ways that farming can promote biodiversity conservation. Here are just a few of them:

Farmers who choose to spray chemicals, can make sure to always follow the instructions carefully to minimize the damage to other harmless species.Rotate crops. When farmers are careful and manage resources sustainably, they can help preserve biodiversity and the environment. Many farmers around the world use sustainable farming and organic or ecological farming methods. One method is to grow two or more crops in the same field. This helps the farmer reduce crop pests while using fewer pesticides. Another method is to avoid applying pesticides on rainy or windy days so less pesticide will enter waterways causing pollution or get blown away.Use trees as part of regular farming practice. Trees can act as natural water filters. Their roots absorb rainwater, and minimize the amount of runoff entering rivers and lakes. Runoff often carries pesticides from farmers’ fields that can damage aquatic ecosystems.Keep the soil filled with beneficial organisms. A handful of farm dirt is rich in biodiversity. Soil biodiversity includes animals, bacteria, fungi and even the roots of plants growing above. Soils form complex ecosystems that make farming possible. There are millions of organisms that live in soil — microorganisms, such as bacteria and fungi, and macroorganisms, such as worms, mites, ants and spiders. These organisms can help farmers to reduce the negative effects of farming. When they eat and dig underground, earthworms, termites and other burrowing organisms mix the upper layers, redistribute nutrients and increase the amount of water absorbed by the soil. Some macroorganisms are critical to local farming techniques. Farmers in Burkina Faso and in other areas of West Africa encourage termites to live and burrow in their farm plots because they improve the soil.

Pin ItArticle EditDiscussA life coach is somebody who helps you manage the various aspects of your life, from your career goals to your finances to your personal life. While there are professional life-coaches who are paid for their insights, the fact of the matter is that each and every one of us has the power to write own destiny. Read this article to learn how.

Edit Steps

Part One: Being Introspective1Observe your own behavior and thought patterns. This will help you recognize your strengths and weaknesses, and identify which aspects of your life need improvement. Remember that before you fix something, you must first identify the problem(s).

Practice viewing your own life from an objective standpoint, or, in other words, from the perspective of somebody else. This might take months of practice, so be patient and keep reminding yourself to take a step back every once in awhile to reflect.Notice how you react to stress, excitement, anger, and anxiety. While these are universal human emotions, we all handle them differently. Do you handle these negative emotions rationally, or let them blow out of proportion? Pay attention to what triggers these emotions: school, work, your family, your spouse, and so on.2Pay attention to your relationships with others. Your relationships with friends, family members, loved ones, and coworkers reveal a great deal about the kind of person you are. Ask yourself the following questions:

Do you frequently argue with friends and family members? Who is usually the one who instigates these arguments? How do you reconcile disagreements? Do you compromise, or do you always assert your position? Are there certain people in your life that make you feel irritated or insecure? Why is that?Have you been neglecting or ignoring your loved ones? When was the last time you showed a friend or loved one that you care for them?3Identify your fears and insecurities about the future. This will help you put your fears in perspective, separating rational fears from irrational ones. The key is to determine whether a fear is rational (i.e. a real danger), or if it stems from personal insecurities. Consider the following exercise:

Think of a fear. For example, "I'm afraid of going back to school because I don't think I'm a strong student." Now, imagine that one of your good friends or family members told you that he or she felt this way. How would you react? What kind of advice would you give him or her? Would you tell this person to give up, or tell them that it is worth a try? We oftentimes give better advice than we are willing to take ourselves, because of the bias we have toward our own insecurities.Remember that even the most successful inventors, entrepreneurs, and scientists were at one point in their lives doubtful of their own capacity. They were probably told by people around them that what they wanted to do was impossible, and yet they pushed through and followed their dreams.4Start a journal. Journals are a great way to keep track of the things that have happened in your life (both ups and downs) and how you reacted to these situations. Reviewing your journal entries will help put your life in perspective, notice patterns, and identify recurring problems.

Go back and re-read old entries once some time has passed. Now that you are no longer in the heat of the moment, do you think that you reacted appropriately to whatever situation took place? How could you have handled it better? Keep these things in mind for the future.

Part Two: Choosing The Right Path1Identify your interests. The best way to have a fulfilling life is to spend your time doing things that you genuinely care about. Consider whether you are interested in art, science, politics, or the environment. Think about what you want your life's legacy to be. How do you want to impact the world around you? These questions will help you find the right career path for you.

Learn how to distinguish between your hobbies and your bigger interests. Just because you like to play guitar, doesn't necessarily mean you should pursue music as a career. But if you eat, sleep and breathe guitar, then continue to practice and perfect your craft and pursue your dream.Don't give up on your hobbies. Just because your passion isn't lucrative, doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't partake in it. In fact, the opposite is true. Life is about learning to balance work and fun, and giving up either will be detrimental to your emotional health. Remember that if you never worked at anything, you wouldn't be able to appreciate the free time you have to partake in hobbies or spend time with friends.2Explore and develop your talents. If you want to reach your potential, you will have to devote time to strengthening the talents you already have, and uncovering any hidden talents that you haven't discovered yet.

Take classes or private lessons in subjects that you are interested in, even if you have no previous experience. You never know when that one elective class will open the door to an entirely new career that you had never considered.Don't be discouraged if you realize that you are not skilled at something. Remember that even recognizing what you are not good at is still a step in the right direction, pointing you toward what you are good at.3Pursue your goals passionately and responsibly. Once you have set your mind to doing something, follow through with it. Be prepared for obstacles, and don't expect immediate results. All good things take time and hard work, but it will be well worth it in the end when you achieve your goals.

Remember that at the end of your life, you are much more likely to regret the things you didn't do than the things you did do.4Stand up for yourself. In life, you will undoubtedly come across people who will try to take advantage of you, whether it is financially or emotionally. While you should strive to be a sensitive, caring person on the one hand, you must also be tough-skinned and not let people walk all over you.

Be skeptical when people ask you to borrow money, constantly expect you to pay for things, or ask for favors without reciprocating. This person is probably taking advantage of you.Be vocal when something is bothering you. Whether it is your employer, your spouse, or your family member, you should get in the habit of calmly letting people know when they have crossed the line. You might be surprised to learn that this person had no idea that he or she was upsetting you.

Part Three: Gaining a Positive Outlook1Learn to silence negative thoughts. Some people say "you are what you eat." Even more so, you are what you think. Positive thinking has the power to transform a mundane or even unpleasant experience into a wonderful one. Thinking positively will give you the foundation for a happier life, regardless of what happens to you.

If you catch yourself having a negative thought, take a step back, identify the thought, and label it as a "negative" thought. Learning to isolate negative thoughts will help you put your worries and insecurities to rest.Begin a regular meditation practice. Meditation is the practice of developing mindful awareness. Meditation not only trains you to silence negative thoughts, it helps you calm all thoughts, good or bad, so that you can learn to enjoy the present moment.2Surround yourself with positive people. Remember that other peoples' energy will rub off on you, especially if you spend a great deal of time with them. Make a point to spend time with friends and loved ones who make you feel better, not worse.

You should by no means abandon friends or family members who you consider to be "negative." Instead, try to be a positive influence in these peoples' attitudes rather than succumbing to their negativity.Terminate any physically or emotionally abusive relationships immediately. No matter how forgiving a person you may be, there is no excuse for domestic violence.3Be thankful. Many of us define ourselves in terms of what we want to do or what we want to own. In other words, we define ourselves in terms of what we don't have. This in essence suggests that we are somehow incomplete. Take some time to be thankful for the things you do have, whether they are physical objects or not, on a daily basis.

Remember positive memories. While it seems impossible to forget embarrassing or sad memories, many of us overlook all of the great memories that have taken place in our lives. Think of the best day(s) you have had in the past month or year. Remember special parties, vacations, and holidays.Appreciate the wonderful people you have in your life. If you are depressed because you don't have a boyfriend or girlfriend, dwelling on this missing element will only make you more unhappy. Take some time to appreciate all the great friends and family members you have in your life.
