GameStop has shelved pre-orders for Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six: Patriots, igniting rumors that the game has been cancelled.
This doesn’t appear to be an error either, as IGN, citing a source “with intimate knowledge of the retailer” says that GameStop “actively flicked a switch” to remove the page.
Furthermore, IGN notes that it is “exceedingly rare” for the retailer to remove a game’s listing from its website, after having previously featured as a cover story on Game Informer.
Ubisoft originally announced Patriots back in 2011, where it revealed plans to launch the game at some point this year. We haven’t seen a great deal on the game since its reveal, however.
Speculation that the title could have moved to next-generation consoles materialized following an interview with Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot at Polygon. He boasted in the same interview that Patriots will ‘surprise the industry’ when it finally arrives.
So, has Rainbow Six: Patriots been canned? Or is it just undergoing something of an overhaul? We’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we find out. Stay tuned.
